Sophie Freud, Critic of Her Grandfather’s Gospel, Dies at 97

Decades after his grandfather died of cancer in 1939, Professor Freud considered many of his basic theories, from “penis envy” to metastasis, obsolete.

He often disputed the patriarchal view of Victorian women’s sexuality, but she “reflected in his theory the belief that women were secondary, not norms.” I am writing. Regarding his conclusion that “women are in love with male therapists forever,” she said he disinfected her attachments, such as her metastases.

“He said it wasn’t a problem, the woman would get over it later,” said Professor Freud, “but I don’t agree. Then the woman goes to another therapist and gets over that therapist. “

She criticized in an interview with the Canadian television film Neighbors: Freud and Hitler in Vienna (2003), “In my eyes, both Adolf Hitler and his grandfather were false prophets of the 20th century.” I collected it. They shared in her words “the ambition to convince other men of the only truth they came across.”

“He will never be wrong,” she said.

Miriam Sophie Freud was born on August 6, 1924 in Vienna. Her father, Jean Martin Freud (known as Martin), was the eldest son of Sigmund Freud and a lawyer who became the director of Dr. Freud’s Psychoanalytic Publishing Company. Her mother, Ernestin (Drucker) Freud, was a speech therapist known as Estee.

Sophie tried to get the most out of her childhood, despite her parents’ feud and hostility to her brother Walter. She was excellent as a student only when she entered the Black Forest Schule, the most progressive girls’ school in Vienna, as a teenager.
