Steam Beta Allows PC Gamers to Use Nintendo Joy-Con Controllers
A significant percentage of Steam PC gamers are keyboard and mouse input enthusiasts. Nevertheless, more options are always welcome, and the PC platform is incredibly diverse. This week, the Steam client on PC (beta) added another option for game control for Steam gamers. support For Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers.
The detachable controllers for Nintendo’s original (non-Lite) Switch form factor are interesting because they work individually or in unison. Luckily for PC gamers, the latest Steam Beta can handle this configuration choice. So if you have a Switch at home and no PC joypad, you have access to two small controllers or a more fully featured mini gamepad. This addition can be a huge boon to your living room PC while you’re running party games.
However, the Nintendo Switch bundled controller is not without flaws. The most obvious problem for adult gamers is poor ergonomics. Separately used Joy-Cons might be fine for his 15-minute quick excursions in casual gaming, but they’re probably fine for longer sessions. Joy-Cons, even coupled to the Joypad form factor, are not as ergonomic as, say, iterations of Microsoft’s or Sony’s controller designs.
Another negative aspect of the Nintendo Joy-Cons is their reliability issues and susceptibility to degradation from normal use. Nintendo is being dragged into court over Joy-Con issues, specifically “stick drift.” Other controllers with mushroom-like thumb sticks have had similar issues, including those built into Steam decks.
If you’re interested in using your Nintendo Joy-Cons with Steam and don’t want to wait for support to be added to the mainstream client, you can sign up for beta updates now in your client settings. To do this, at the top left of the client window, click[Steam]>[設定]>[アカウント]Click. Near the bottom right of the window you will see an option to “Join Beta”.On the other hand, users who are already on the Steam Beta can connect to Joy-Cons via Bluetooth and play on Steam.[Steam]>[設定]>[コントローラー]>[一般的なコントローラー設定]can be configured from
If you’re using the Nintendo Online Classic Controller, you’ll also find better support with the beta that went live on August 4th. These are simple replicas of the controllers that came bundled with previous NES, SNES, and N64 consoles, but are wirelessly compatible with Switch (and Steam).
