‘Ted Lasso’ Season Finale Recap: Family

So it’s rap!

Last week, “Ted Lasso” completed or semi-completed many of its storylines that still remain, even as it nears the end of its three seasons. Nate got the clearance he needed to return to AFC Richmond from the formidable Coach Beard. Jamie has regained his confidence on and off the pitch by letting go of his hatred of his father. (Rebecca had achieved a similar peace of mind by letting go of his hatred of Rupert one episode earlier.)

After seemingly reuniting Roy and Keeley in the last episode, now it looks like they may have reunited? Richmond are initially at the bottom of the Premier League standings after a stunning win over Man City. He had been picked, but was now on the verge of being in contention for the title. And finally, it’s been unequivocally and unequivocally admitted that Trent Krim’s hair is “wonderful.”

As the episode ended, Ted was preparing to provide Rebecca with a big “truth bomb” like the one she gave Rebecca near the end of Seasons 1 and 2. Unfortunately, he was interrupted by the credits sequence. Or was it him?Brandi Carlyle’s “Home” cover This episode from “The Wiz” was one of several references to “The Wizard of Oz” in the episode, perhaps more a continuation than an interruption in Ted’s confession.

This kicks off the finale itself, but this certainly seemed like the series-ending episode, even if none of the show’s officials were willing to affirm it. Now that Ted is back in America, we’ll have to wait and see if Beard, Roy and Nate inherit the “Richmond Way,” as Trent Crim called it.

To provide a quick summary:

  • Yes, when I saw the title, I was also curious about the reference to “Sound of Music”. That said, I didn’t expect a team performance for “So Long, Farewell” to be so literal. It was still fun.

  • Ted decides to go back to Kansas and go back to Henry as we all know.

  • Nate back at AFC Richmond – as Kitman? No, never mind that. Are you Kitman’s assistant? That said, a happy ending montage suggests he’ll be promoted from Ted’s replacement, Roy, as Richmond’s manager.

  • Roy and Jamie acted like total idiots, but Keeley seems happy they’re both done. What a mess.

  • Did Rebecca and Ted’s opening fake fool you? not me. I never lost my faith. And with each finale, I could tell that the reunion with the Dutch, yes, our reunion, was getting closer and closer.

I’d love to talk more about all of this as soon as I’m able to organize my thoughts and write them down. (Don’t wait!) But in the meantime, feel free to kick off the weekly discussions that are a big part of this “Ted Lasso” experience.
