Time Spy Benchmarks Suggest RTX 4080 Is Faster Than RTX 3090 Ti

According to a tweet posted by Leaker @ kopite7kimi Earlier this morning, Nvidia’s upcoming RTX4080 and RTX4070 GPU “estimated” performance in 3DMark’s TimeSpy Extreme benchmark looks very promising. Predictably, the RTX4080 is faster than the RTX3090 Ti, and the RTX4070 is as fast as the RTX308010GB, one of the best graphics cards on the market.

As always, take these results with a grain of salt. In fact, Kopite states that he is not completely confident in the shared data points, but the leaker has a good record of accuracy. I’ve been making similar estimates for some time based on the rumored spec, but Kopite just looked at the actual performance data and obfuscated it to protect (otherwise) innocence. It is not clear whether it is purely speculative or purely speculative.

For reference, Kopite already shared RTX 4090 Time Spy Extreme data a week ago. This shows that GPU performance is about 30% faster than the fastest, overclocked, liquid-cooled RTX 3090 Ti. Starting from that data, Kopite’s RTX 4080 and 4070 numbers aren’t too shocking.

Kopite believes the RTX 4080 will reach a very impressive Time Spy Extreme graphics score of 15,000 points. This is a bit faster than the RTX3090Ti at normal frequencies. Especially in TimeSpy Extreme, this data makes the RTX 4080 40% to 50% faster than its predecessor, the RTX 3080 10GB, a significant generational improvement. If the GPU price of the 4080 is remotely similar to the 3080, the customer can get a very powerful graphics card for that money.

The RTX 4070 estimate isn’t very impressive, but it’s still a healthy intergenerational improvement (if it’s true). Kopite believes the RTX 4070 will reach 10,000 points in Time Spy Extreme. This is in perfect agreement with most of the RTX3080 10GB results in the 3DMark Results Browser. Compared to the 3070, this is a 25% performance improvement and comparable to the RTX 3080.

Nvidia’s RTX40 series architecture has long been thought to be a monster. Especially for the RTX 4090 and 4080, this will almost certainly improve the performance of record generations. Still, power consumption is sacrificed. The biggest unknown at the moment is GPU pricing, which can fluctuate in all directions depending on the shortage issue and the release date of the 40 series. Performance will only go so far unless you can get it at a good value.

Check out our existing articles for all the details we know about the RTX 40 Series “Ada” architecture. Also note that 3DMark represents only one synthetic graphics benchmark and what we really want to see is the actual game benchmark. All the signs are that you probably need to get the hardware sooner by October.
