GeForce RTX 40-Series GPUs Are 22% More Expensive in Europe
Nvidia has lowered its recommended price for its flagship graphics card by $400 with the launch of the GeForce RTX 4090, but has significantly increased prices on its other high-end offerings with the GeForce RTX 4080 model. It’s self-evident that in Europe his GeForce RTX 4080 16GB new was about the same amount as his GeForce RTX 3090 24GB a few months ago.
Graphics card prices have been steadily rising since the early 2000s, but have recently reached record highs due to higher production prices and higher costs for graphics processing units (GPUs) at contract manufacturers such as TSMC and Samsung Foundry. gaming graphics card prices have risen significantly. Real board production, chip scarcity/complicated logistics, very strong demand from gamers, miners and pros.
With the Ada Lovelace family of GPUs, Nvidia is much more expensive to make chips with TSMC’s 4N technology than Samsung Foundry’s 8LPP production node for the same die size and yield, hence a higher cost at TSMC. That’s why we’ve always considered raising the price of GeForce RTX 40 series graphics boards. Still, Nvidia’s price hike appears to be bigger than expected.
US MSRP does not include tax, while German MSRP includes 19% VAT. Additionally, when Nvidia launched his GeForce RTX 30 series two years before him, the euro was pretty strong against the US dollar, so these boards were more expensive in Germany than in the US.

Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3080 10GB was $699 when it launched two years ago, but it wasn’t the company’s flagship product, so it wasn’t cheap. Still, Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4080 12GB is currently priced at $899, making him not the second most powerful offering in the lineup. On the other hand, the price of this 12GB board of his will be even higher in Europe (1 million euros, Andreas Schilling (opens in new tab)), which is somewhat unattractive.
The GeForce RTX 4080 16GB cost $400 more than the company’s GeForce RTX 3080 12GB released a few months ago and had the same MSRP as the flagship GPU-based GeForce RTX 3080 Ti. Of course, Nvidia’s AD103 GPU is considerably more complex and harder to manufacture than Nvidia’s GA102, but the GeForce RTX 4080 16GB isn’t a top-of-the-line device at well over $1,000.
As for flagships, Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4090 will cost $1,599 at launch, $100 more than the GeForce RTX 3090 at launch and $400 less than the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti at launch. I don’t know why they decided to make the more affordable (probably because they’re preparing the GeForce RTX 4090 Ti, which sits on top of the RTX 4090).Still, a famous hardware blogger Copy Te 7 Kimi (opens in new tab) says that selling the GeForce RTX 4090 for $1,599 was a “last minute decision” by Nvidia’s CEO.
Overall, there are objective reasons why Nvidia’s new graphics processors and graphics cards are more expensive than their predecessors and promise to be considerably faster than the GeForce RTX 30 series parts, but the recommended price On the other hand, if Nvidia makes a last-minute decision to cut the price of the GeForce RTX 4090, the company may have the ability to sell its latest offerings for a little less.
