AMD Hasn’t Forgotten Radeon RX 6000 GPUs: New Drivers Incoming
AMD has promised to release new drivers for its Radeon RX 6000 series and previous generation graphics processors in the coming weeks. The statement comes after the company has not released drivers for its previous GPUs for the past two months as it focused on its new Radeon RX 7000 series.
“We are working on a new AMD Radeon driver. [Radeon RX] Frank Azor, Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions and Marketing at AMD, said: in a twitter post“We are aiming to release within the next two weeks. In case of delays or as we get closer to posting, we will provide another update. Please stay tuned.”
AMD launched its Radeon RX 7900 XT and RX 7900 XTX graphics cards in mid-December, but had to fix bugs that inevitably came with the release of new hardware for existing games. As a result, AMD has allocated as many software engineers as possible to support hardware launches and drivers for new RDNA 3-based products.
Unfortunately, such changes have impacted the company’s ability to release new drivers for its existing Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards. As a result, the drivers for these products haven’t been updated since his November, infuriating many graphics card owners. The good news is that updated drivers are coming. The bad news is that these cards will sit without new drivers for about 3 months before they do.
AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 series boards are still one of the best graphics cards you can buy today. It may not be the outright performance champion of ray-traced games, but it’s cheap and widely available. Additionally, AMD’s Radeon RX 7900 series offerings are only aimed at the $899 to $999+ segment, so those who aren’t willing to spend that much but want to stick with an AMD graphics board can see what they can get from the Radeon RX 6000 series. What do you need to buy? Timely driver releases for these products are therefore essential to keep customers dependent on strong customer support to play the latest games.
