“For the past 11 years, Amazon Drive has acted as a secure cloud storage service for Amazon customers to back up their files,” Amazon said in an email sent to current Amazon Drive customers. “As of December 31, 2023, we will end support for Amazon Drive to fully focus on photo and video storage using Amazon Photos.”
For those unfamiliar with Amazon Drive, we will allow all Amazon customers to upload 5GB files for free. With Amazon Drive, customers can securely store their photos, videos, and documents in the cloud. While 5GB of storage is provided free of charge, Amazon offers a paid tier from $ 1.99 / month for 100GB to $ 11.99 / month for 2TB of Amazon Drive storage.
“We will continue to provide our customers with the ability to securely back up, share and organize their photos and videos with Amazon Photos,” Amazon continued in an email. Amazon Photos is similar in concept to Amazon Drive, except that customers can only upload photos and videos.
One of the benefits of Amazon Photo is that customers with Prime membership have unlimited access to photo storage. Prime members, on the other hand, are limited to 5GB of free video storage. If you want to increase your Amazon Photos video storage with Prime membership, the additional storage starts at $ 1.99 per month for 100GB.
