AMD Graphics Cards Are the Better Value at Every Price Point
Black Friday deals and Black Friday graphics card deals are here and worth a lot. Also, Nvidia’s RTX 30 series remains almost exclusively on AMD’s side as they remain overpriced compared to AMD’s RX 6000 series. Nvidia’s pricing remains in early 2022, and it feels like it hasn’t adjusted to the new reality. In fact, Nvidia retail prices are up compared to his September.
In terms of cost-effectiveness, the only place AMD currently doesn’t beat is at the top of the best row. If we can’t wait for the launch of AMD RDNA 3 GPUs and the Radeon RX 7900 series, it’s a direct competitor to the RTX 4080. , and may even compete with the RTX 4090. Through categories, from best to worst performance and price.
Include overall performance results from GPU benchmark tiers for both rasterization and ray tracing performance. Nvidia — and sometimes Intel — can argue on the DXR (DirectX Raytracing) side. RT effects generally degrade performance significantly to improve image fidelity and often require upscaling algorithms such as DLSS, FSR 2, and XeSS.
TLDR; AMD’s Highest Radeon Value
Below, we cover all segments of the GPU market and explain them in detail, showing the exact fps per dollar compared to the competition. But if you want to know the best AMD Radeon overall (which is also the best overall graphics card), here are the top three.
- Radeon RX 6600: Now $189 (opens in new tab) in the new egg (was $269): With 8 GB of memory and a boost clock of 2,491 MHz, this card offers the best frame rate per dollar. It averages 67.9 fps on the 1080p Ultra setting, which is about 0.36 frames per dollar.
- Radeon RX 6650 XT: Now $259 At Newegg (opens in new tab) (was $299): A step up from the RX 6600, the 6650 XT has 8 GB of GDDR6 RAM and a boost clock of 2,635 MHz. Our suite of 1080p super settings averaged 79.8 fps, or about 0.31 frames per dollar.
- Radeon RX 6750 XT: Now $369 At Newegg (opens in new tab) (previously $549): Great for 1440p gaming, the 6750 XT features 12GB of GDDR6 RAM and a boost clock of 2,618 MHz. Our 1440p Ultra setting test averaged 78.2 fps, or 0.21 1440p frames per dollar.
Extreme GPUs: RTX 4090 and RTX 4080
AMD has yet to release its latest generation RX 7900 XTX and 7900 XT to compete, so Nvidia wins this by default. The official suggested retail price may actually favor the RTX 4090, but the actual price is 35% above the halo card’s launch price of $1,599. RTX 4080 Now Available Starting at $1,269 (opens in new tab) — Just 6% more than $1,199 MSRP. This is undoubtedly due to the RTX 4080 being too expensive for his penultimate offering, and while the first wave may have sold out, it doesn’t seem to have happened in subsequent waves.
As a result, the RTX 4080 is a better value at its current price.Mind you, it’s not good It’s worth it, but you can’t beat the value proposition offered by a $200,000+ graphics card.
Enthusiast GPUs: RX 6950 XT, RX 6900 XT, RTX 3090 Ti, and RTX 3080 Ti
If you go down one level from the top of the hierarchy, both old and new options are displayed. Alongside the RTX 3090 Ti is the RX 6950 XT, which launched earlier this year, and in 2021 Nvidia’s RTX 3080 Ti will take on his two-year-old RX 6900 XT. The OG RTX 3090 and RTX 3080 12GB could also be included, but most of these are priced higher than his RTX 4080 replacements, so they obviously won’t win any prizes.
All of these cards average at least 60 fps or more in rasterization benchmarks, so we’ll stick to the 4K comparison. For DXR, we’re going to do a comparison at 1440p — think of it as a bit of a substitute for 4K with upscaling. And while Nvidia offers higher ray tracing performance, it’s priced much higher, making AMD the overall winner. will be advantageous.
High-end GPUs: RX 6800 XT, RX 6800, RX 6750 XT, RX 6700 XT, RTX 3080, RTX 3070 Ti, and RTX 3070
The high-end category spans a fairly wide range of price points. We have his two-year-old cards like the RTX 3080 and RTX 3070, and his latest RTX 3070 Ti from last year. On the AMD side, we have the RX 6800 XT and the RX 6800, the RX 6700 XT and the recent RX 6750 XT refresh.
Some of these cards can definitely handle 4K games just fine, but I would compare it down to 1440p for rasterization and 1080p ultra for DXR. It’s the sweet spot for getting .
- RX 6750 XT for $369 now only (opens in new tab) at 1440p/1080p: 0.2119 fps/$ rasterize, 0.0975 fps/$ DXR
- $349 for the RX 6700 XT (opens in new tab) at 1440p/1080p: 0.2104 fps/$ rasterize, 0.0960 fps/$ DXR
- RX 6800 XT for $514 now only (opens in new tab) at 1440p/1080p: 0.1985 fps/$ rasterize, 0.0962 fps/$ DXR
- RX 6800 $479 (opens in new tab) at 1440p/1080p: 0.1897 fps/$ rasterize, 0.0881 fps/$ DXR
- $450 for the RTX 3070 (opens in new tab) at 1440p/1080p: 0.1722 fps/$ rasterize, 0.1150 fps/$ DXR
- RTX 3070 Ti for $569 now only (opens in new tab) at 1440p/1080p: 0.1451 fps/$ rasterize, 0.0982 fps/$ DXR
- RTX 3080 10GB $699 (opens in new tab) at 1440p/1080p: 0.1367 fps/$ rasterize, 0.0979 fps/$ DXR
Mainstream GPUs: RX 6700 10GB, RX 6650 XT, RX 6600 XT, RX 6600, RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3060, RTX 3050, Arc A770, Arc A750
The mainstream category can also include previous generation cards, but only in comparison to current generation products. The relatively new RX 6700 10GB and RX 6650 XT join AMD’s RX 6600 XT and RX 6600 in his 2021 release. From Nvidia we have the RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 3060 and RTX 3050. Finally, Intel is joining the party with the Arc A770 and Arc A750. (Note that we don’t have performance data for the A770 8GB yet, so we’ll skip that data. We think it’s worth the extra $20 to get 16GB.)
All of these are ostensibly mainstream products, so we’re dropping 1080p ultra for rasterization and 1080p media for DXR. This is the last category where it makes no sense to even mention ray tracing. According to Steam, 1080p remains the most popular resolution for gaming, but apparently higher spec PC gamers are more likely to buy his 1440p or better hardware with the monitors they need.
Budget GPUs: RX 6500 XT, RX 6400, GTX 1660 Super, GTX 1660, GTX 1650, Arc A380
Finally, as far as pricing is concerned, there is the budget category. AMD and Intel GPUs in this price range still offer ray tracing hardware, but performance tends to be in the sub-20 fps range, so it doesn’t really matter. These include AMD’s RX 6500 XT and RX 6400 Navi 24 GPUs, Nvidia’s previous generation GTX 1660 Super, GTX 1660, GTX 1650, and Intel’s Arc A380.
This round shows fps/$ for 1080p media, but as mentioned, there are no DXR results on Nvidia cards. You can reasonably run at 60 fps, but the same metric should be used for comparison.
