AMD to Detail New FidelityFX Tech at GDC
AMD will be sneaking out next-gen images in one of them that will improve the FidelityFX technology. Upcoming Sessions at Game Developers Conference 2023 In late March, the company made the announcement this week.
AMD’s FidelityFX Package The company is known for its super-resolution image upscaling technology. That’s because it’s supported by a wide variety of games and works on AMD-powered game consoles and non-Radeon hardware as well. But AMD’s FidelityFX is actually a big collection of eye-pleasing technologies designed to greatly improve the visual quality of games or boost framerates without any visible quality loss. is.
In addition to FSR, AMD’s current version of FidelityFX includes Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS), Combined Adaptive Compute Ambient Occlusion (CACAO), Variable Rate Shading (VRS), Stochastic Screen Space Reflections (SSSR), ray -traced shadow Denoiser and others. To name a few. Many of AMD’s FidelityFX technologies are used in games, but none of them are as prevalent as super-resolution (I suspect the same is true for Nvidia’s image processing technology).
It’s not entirely clear what other technologies AMD plans to add to its FidelityFX collection, but Super Resolution 3.0 is certainly one option. Other possibilities also include various ways to improve performance for ray tracing enabled games, but given the hardware capabilities of RDNA 2 and RDNA 3 based GPUs, what AMD can do here I don’t know yet.
“In this session, Jason Lacroix, FidelityFX SDK lead, will discuss the features and architecture of the SDK, how FidelityFX technology is implemented on top of the engine’s own abstractions, and how it was released as part of the SDK. We’ll see how it works.” The session description is displayed. “This session will also include an exciting sneak peek at the new FidelityFX technology that will be available soon.”
As an aside, AMD announced this month that Plugin for Unreal Engine 5.1 Enables FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.2 technology in games using this engine. With this plugin, developers can easily add his FSR 2.2 to their games to deal with ghosts and improve their appearance, such as animated leaves that tend to haunt his artifacts. Allows for additional control.
