AMD’s 3D V-Cache Comes To Laptops: Ryzen 9 7945HX3D CPU Listed

Mobile power users may quickly find reasons to review and possibly upgrade their systems. According to a Weibo post (HXL, shared on Twitter by @9550PRO), ASUS is preparing a ROG Strix SCAR laptop with the desktop Ryzen 9 7945HX3D chip. As you can see from the chip’s ‘X3D’ name, this new chip features AMD’s 3D V-Cache technology that boosts gaming performance. This same technology powers AMD’s CPUs, which rank among the best CPUs for gaming with market-leading gaming performance.
There is currently no information on the actual market availability of this laptop, but a shared Weibo screenshot shows the laptop’s specs. Retail list of laptops with chips, has established itself as a performance desktop replacement laptop for true enthusiasts. Like the rest of the Dragon Range lineup, the 7945HX3D chip will consist of a standard CPU for desktop PCs packed into a laptop chassis.

According to information, ROG’s Strix SCAR 17 will ship with a 17.3-inch diagonal, 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, an undisclosed 2 TB SSD, and a 90 Wh battery. All this in a not-so-fine chassis that weighs 3 kg. So mobility is certainly there, but relatively limited. Again, the general market for these devices is positioned as full-fledged desktop replacements in smaller form factors. Not as an AI solution that you can carry around and train while sitting in the park.
However, we have high hopes for the performance of the Ryzen 9 7945HX3D, but at the end of the day, this is a Zen 4, 16 core CPU with a total of 80 MB L2+L3 cache. With a TDP configurable from 55W to 75W, users might be best off paying attention to the “small text” in the specs. This configuration range is where different systems with exactly the same hardware can perform differently (performance gains come at the expense of energy efficiency and, in this case, battery life).
Again, it is helpful to emphasize that this is unconfirmed information that we are dealing with. So be sure to listen half the time. However, the fact that some laptops packed with AMD’s Dragon Range lineup are already on the list bodes well for those looking to upgrade to such a powerful system in the not too distant future.
