AMD’s Ryzen 9 7900X Hits $439 All-Time Low for Cyber Monday
AMD’s Ryzen 7000 family of Zen 4 processors is only a month out on the market, but the price cut has already brought the price down by 33%. The latest chip in the family to receive a big price cut is the Ryzen 7 7900X, which was selling for $473 against a suggested retail price of $549 just four days ago.
Today Amazon sells the processor for just $439.99. This is our lowest price ever and saves you 20% compared to MSRP. Our own Paul Alcorn said in his review of the Ryzen 9 7900X: Along with other latest products. “
At $439, it effectively solves one of my main complaints about this chip.
The Ryzen 9 7900X sits right below the flagship Ryzen 9 7950X with a 12 core/24 thread design. It has a base clock of 4.7 GHz, a boost clock of 5.6 GHz, a combined cache of 76 MB, and a maximum TDP of 230 Watts. Unlike competing Raptor Lake-based processors from Intel, AMD’s Ryzen 7000 family will only support DDR5 memory, something to consider when budgeting for a new system.
We also have to take into account that Ryzen 7000 would also require all-new 600-series motherboards with the AM5 socket. The 600-series motherboards add DDR5 memory and native support for PCIe 5.0, putting performance on par with Intel’s competitors.
In our gaming benchmarks, we found the Ryzen 9 7900X to be roughly on par with the more expensive Ryzen 9 7950X. And in gaming scenarios, it’s no match for the Core i9-12900K and Core i7-12700K. However, the large price difference between the Ryzen 9 7900X and the Core i7-12700K at the time of review favored the latter.
