B650 Motherboards Appear From Multiple Manufacturers
What was a trickle became a torrent as the pantheon of manufacturers unveiled motherboards for Ryzen 7000 (opens in new tab)‘s AM5 platform on the B650 chipset. It’s a mainstream midrange platform that still includes features that seemed impossible a few years ago. We have already covered parts of NZXT, (opens in new tab)products, boards from MSI, Gigabyte, ASRock, and Asus mean the market is overflowing with options.
First, Gigabyte has brought to market eight boards for the enthusiastic B650, including E (“Extreme”) and M (for mATX cases) variants. Almost all boards are from the Aorus series, Aorus Master (opens in new tab) From Elite and Pro to discreet Aero G. The Master board naturally runs the B650E chipset and supports DDR5 RAM overclocking up to 6600MHz. It offers a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for a graphics card, but shares bandwidth with two M.2 sockets and drops to x8 under SSD load. You can install one PCIe 5.0 M.2 drive without damaging the It also has a PCIe 4.0 slot for additional add-ons and four SATA 6 ports for other drives.
small one Aero G (opens in new tab) The board doesn’t have a PCIe 5.0 slot for the GPU, dropping to PCIe 4.0 in this area, but reaching 5.0 x4 speeds in one of the three M.2 slots and PCIe 4.0 in the others. There’s also a SATA port for expansion here, as well as Wi-Fi 6E. This board is aimed at creatives rather than gamers and features a rear USB-C port that allows him to output 4K video from the integrated graphics.
Asus also has a range of new boards based on mid-range AMD chipsets for the Ryzen 7000 generation, with entries in ROG Strix, TUF Gaming, ProArt, and Prime tiers. Asus’ ROG Strix, TUF Gaming, and ProArt B650 motherboards offer convenient high-speed USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C ports, and ROG Strix boards support Precision Boost Overdrive automatic overclocking in his UEFI BIOS. The ROG Strix B650E card features two PCIe 5.0 x16 slots and a pair of PCIe 5.0 M.2 slots, complemented by two PCIe 4.0 M.2. An Ethernet port supporting 2.5G transfer seems to be standard on B650E boards as well.
ASRock’s B650E Taichi (opens in new tab) It has a 24+2+1 phase smart power stage that helps unlock the performance of the Ryzen 7000. It has PCIe 5.0, DDR5, Wi-Fi 6E and even USB 4. Small Form Factor Enthusiasts B650E PG-ITX Wi-Fi, (opens in new tab) This brings all the B650E features to the ITX, but drops USB 4 and only has one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot. After all, there isn’t much space to play with.
Next, prolific motherboard maker MSI targets both gamers and pros with its component carriers. Mini-ITX is also available here. MPG B650I Edge WIFI (opens in new tab), comes in white as well as the traditional black to match PC builds that haven’t fallen to the dark side. The MPG series boards, while probably not from ITX, also feature four of his M.2 sockets, one more than other brands. All boards support PCIe 5.0 and DDR5, support RAM overclocking up to 6600MHz, and the expected 2.5G Ethernet and Wi-Fi 6E. pro series (opens in new tab) It also adds a USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 Type-C connector capable of transfer speeds up to 20Gbps for ultra-fast external storage.
