Beta BIOS Lets You Prioritize CCDs on AMD’s 7000X3D CPUs

AMD’s upcoming line of 7000X3D processors, which includes the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D and Ryzen 7 7800X3D, promises incredible gaming performance thanks to massive 3D V-Cache. However, these newer processors apply caching to only one of the two CCDs. (opens in new tab) (the complex core die) make up the chip architecture, so the software and firmware must ensure that the game uses the correct CCD. Otherwise you won’t get any performance benefit. For non-gaming tasks, a non-cached CCD may be a better choice as it can reach higher boost clocks.

When assigning tasks to cores (or CCDs), both the OS and firmware can make mistakes and send higher priority workloads to slower threads. Fortunately, it may soon be possible to tweak the CCD priority in the BIOS. This allows fine-grained control over which core gets which task in an OS-independent way.
