Boulies Master Chair Review: Double Duty
The $274 Boulies Master chair looks more “functional” than “fun,” but don’t let its lack of gamer aesthetic fool you. A comfortable chair for gaming and work. You don’t need extreme angles or bright colors to show off your gaming prowess and skills in your spreadsheet.
At first glance, Boulies Master is like a job to buy from home in this (post?) Covid era when many of us need an office at home. The Boulies Master design language is a hybrid between an office chair and a gaming chair (office heavy), offering a corrugated seat and multiple adjustments to fine-tune your posture and comfort. My question is, can this sub $300 chair provide comfort and support for gamers and workers? Assembled. There, I spend 12 hours a day writing, playing games, and creating.

assembly
All in all, it took just 50 minutes to assemble with the help of a simple assembly guide. Illustrated steps were provided along with detailed instructions for each step. So why did it take so long to build? Well, it was more user error than design. First, my new office is the Box Room. It has nice south facing windows and plenty of space, but it’s not designed for gymnastics where you build chairs.
Second, I lost the dark spacers under the dark desk and on the dark carpet. Everything I needed came in a fairly large box. The box was well protected (which is a good thing, considering it arrived with one side scraped off). Luckily the parts arrived safely, with only the crushed box containing the main tilt mechanism showing signs of mishandling. There were no scratches.
Coming back to assembly, the choice of M8 machine screws is a good compromise between heavy-duty fixtures and the use of tools.M8 size machine screws are used throughout the build and have plenty of meat and strength. And I didn’t have to hunt around for a bunch of hex wrenches. That said, the tools that come with it are good enough, but I’m a tool lover, so I decided to smash Wera’s hex wrench and screwdriver set. A few spare parts were intentionally left at the end of the assembly process. These parts (M8 machine screws and her 2 spacers) will come in handy if repairs are needed later. Or if I don’t drop them behind something dark sometimes, they will.
Design and construction
We chose the ash gray water repellent fabric option for two reasons. First, it matches the interior of the office, and second, fabric is warmer and more comfortable than polyurethane synthetic leather. Overall, the steel structure is nice. It feels like a solid piece of furniture unlike any chair I’ve ever purchased. The armrests are solid, with a little play, but no squeak or rattle. The fabric covering the seat and backrest is well sewn and supportive. The fabric claims to be water repellent, but I haven’t been able to spill any liquids on the chair yet. However, the claimed hydrophobic effect diminishes over time. .
The seat is a little firmer than I expected, but it didn’t bother me too much during the week I was testing it.The aluminum five-star foot base is sturdy and sturdy. It has not damaged or scratched other furniture. Her 5 PU casters roll nicely on carpet and IKEA floor protectors. However, it looks a little cheap compared to other chairs. All materials used are easy to clean with a damp cloth. No chemicals needed. The dark accents on the back and seat attract dust, so an occasional light wipe will keep them looking great. However, pet owners beware. The fabric grabs all the fur that gets lost.
This chair can support a person who is 5 feet, 5 inches to 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs up to 298 pounds (135 kg). I’m 177 cm (5’10”) tall and weigh 114 kg (251 lbs), so I’m close to the upper end of the specs. I can say that I never felt unsafe in my chair. Some chairs can feel a little flimsy, as if the enormous human weight is balanced on the head of a pin. This is not the case for boolean masters. The chair weighs about 24 kg (just under 53 pounds), with an all-steel frame and aluminum base providing most of the mass. Makes for a solid chair.
A number of handles and knobs allow you to adjust the chair to suit your needs. If you sit on the chair and reach to your right, you’ll find a handle for raising and lowering the seat. Remove your weight from the chair and lift the handle to raise the seat. The seat lowers when you sit down. On the right side of the backrest is the lumbar support knob. Dialing this in pushes support into the little part of your back, which is helpful since I got sciatica in 2006 from moving the couch due to poor judgment.
Also on the right side is a handle to unlock the backrest so you can lean back and relax. Moving to my left, another handle is used to lock/unlock the tilt mechanism. Use this to gently change the seat angle, giving you the option to shift your center of gravity for greater comfort. The same armrest can also be rotated inward and outward for better support. Another button on the inside of each armrest brings about 2 inches of rest, giving your body the extra room it needs, but keeping it wide enough to rest your elbows. During the build process, you can set the maximum armrest width by sliding an M8 machine screw along the rail.
comfort and adjustment
So is Booley Master comfortable? In a nutshell, yes. The seats are a little stiff, but my back didn’t hurt. With so many adjustments, you can keep your head upright in line with the monitor, supported by the included neck pillow. No more pain than sitting in an old chair all day. I usually sit straight up at the screen with the armrests flush with the top of my desk and tilted back slightly to shift my center of gravity. The chair accommodated my mass well. The only adjustment not provided by the chair is a footrest to keep me from leaning toward the screen.
The armrests are solid and have a little give, but not enough to support your elbows. They are a firmer platform to work comfortably on. I chose to extend the armrests to their maximum width because (unlike on my last transatlantic flight) I wanted a little more space between my body and the rests. is. It doesn’t have room to sit cross-legged or tuck your legs down (not that you can accomplish that kind of exercise), but there is room for smaller people. I found that I had to lower the height, reduce the lumbar support, and bring my arms a little closer to get the comfort of the.
Conclusion
At $274 (UK price £290), this is a great chair. Arguably the most important aspect of an office/gaming chair is whether you want to sit on it. And after building and testing it, I was drawn back to the Boulies Master and sat there for hours without really getting uncomfortable. Except the chair was supporting my frame and didn’t feel like I was balancing on a pinhead.
Neck support is welcome, but wearing the hoodie forced me to sit unnaturally forward. So I either stop wearing the hoodie or remove the neck support. The seat isn’t difficult to fine-tune to suit your needs and is easy to move around the office. Considering his previous chair was £200 on Amazon, spending the extra £90 makes a big difference. Boulies Master is a reliable workhorse. It gets the job done and offers support and comfort. He doesn’t scream “GAMER”, but he’ll happily play his Steam library in this chair. In fact, I think it will.
