Cooler Master Ships PSU with More Durable, Cooler 12VHPWR Connector

Melting and overheating of 12VHPWR power connectors is a hot topic among enthusiasts. As such, PSU and cable manufacturers are trying to address these issues in every possible way. PSU maker Cooler Master recently started bundling his revamped 12VHPWR cable with a 90-degree plug with his latest PSUs.
Cooler Master says the new 90 degree 12VHPWR auxiliary PCIe 5.0 power connector is more durable and has better thermal construction than the competition. Among other things, the company says the temperature is 5 degrees Celsius lower, the contacts are 25% thicker, the impedance change rate is 45% lower, the insertion/extraction force is 12% higher, and there are four springs instead of two. . Cooler Master says the new connector is safer to use than his generic 12VHPWR connector.

Cables and connectors must comply with fairly stringent standards designed by organizations such as PCI-SIG. As such, PSU, graphics card and cable/connector manufacturers are limited in what they can do to improve these connectors. Because many things about compatibility are tightly regulated.
That said, the new connector probably has nothing to do with the pending 12V 2×6 standard connector, but is likely a slightly improved version of 12VHPWR and is 100% compatible and compliant. In either case, the user should properly connect the new cable to the graphics card to avoid failure.
