Hackers attack Deribit hot wallets, steal $28M in crypto

Crypto Derivatives Platform Deribit was hacked for $28 million at midnight (UTC) on November 1st.

The incident was confirmed on the official Twitter account a few hours later at 07:00 (UTC) the next day.

Deribit said hackers have compromised some of its hot wallets. The company has tried to reassure users by stating that customer funds are safe and any losses incurred will be covered by the company’s reserves.

Deribit confirmed that the attack did not affect Fireblock or cold storage wallets, adding that it is company policy to store them. 99% of offline funds in cold storage facilities.

Attacks have been isolated, allowing developers to control exploits. The breach found that the attacker had access to her Deribit Bitcoin, Ethereum, and his USDC hot wallets.
