Many online have witnessed the moment actress Sasha Kull, 27, realized her life had changed completely. “The Flash” director Andy Muschietti has announced the casting of Cal for the role of Supergirl. post a video In it he told her that she had beaten hundreds of others to get the job. It will be her feature film debut.
Her instinctive reactions are even more real than you might think. Until that moment, Kal knew only that she was auditioning for an unnamed character in a Warner Bros. movie. She knew she was Supergirl, and she even knew the role existed at the same time.
This role was a high introduction to Hollywood studio equipment. As a superhero movie, the scale of the movie was not to mention, “The Flash” in particular was shaken by a long delay and a series of legal troubles over starring Ezra Miller.
Sitting at a cafe in Los Angeles’ Eagle Rock neighborhood, Cal actively avoided talking about Miller, even indirectly, instead focusing on his own experience taking on the role.
“People say to me, ‘How are you feeling?'” Your life is about to change. ‘ And I’m not there,’ said Cal. “I smile and say yes! It’s kind of like going with the flow, but I don’t think of it that way. You never know.”
In a discussion the morning before the film premiered in Hollywood, Cal spoke about auditions, inspiration, and possible futures for Supergirl. Below is an edited excerpt of the conversation.
You previously had a one-time appearance credit on the soap opera The Young and the Restless. Did you imagine being entrusted with such a role at that time?
I saw “Wonder Woman” when I graduated. [from the AMDA College of the Performing Arts, Los Angeles] Cropped her photo in 2017 to include her and Charlize [Theron] My vision board had a song from that year’s Atomic Blonde on it. I pasted it there and now God is sending me a message. I always say it’s written in the stars. It was meant to happen.
Do you know how many people you’ve played against to play this role?
It was said to be over 400, but I think the number of tapes was in the thousands. It’s really special to have a director as talented as Andy Muschietti and an amazing human being, look. he believed me
what do you think he saw?
he explains it [by saying] Having a strength combined with a weakness.
I didn’t even know I had auditioned for this role. It was an untitled Warner Bros. movie. Dude, it was one tape. Then Andy called me and said, “Can you cut my hair?” I still didn’t know what it was. I felt like cutting my hair. And without knowing who was playing it, he signed a contract with Warner Bros.
Did you have no idea what you were going to do throughout the audition process?
don’t understand. She had a gun at her audition. So I felt like someone with a gun. I’m on Zoom, that’s Zoom it was recorded. And he asked, “Can you fly?” what is he saying to me? Is he telling me to get on the plane now?
What was your experience like on set with Ezra?
From the moment I arrived until the moment I left, I spent a lot of time with the stunt team. And being with the stunt team was incredible. I can’t help but talk about them. I swear they were my family all along.
Does anyone in the industry have advice on how to get through all this?
I was so happy to be so close to Leslie Grace throughout this journey. Who Was DC’s Batgirl, and Anthony Ramos, who is in the new movie Transformers. In fact, we were both doing In the Heights together, and I was literally recruited into that little circle, even though I wasn’t in that movie. Believe it or not, Leslie, this has been a much more difficult experience for her through all that has happened, but she has been there for me a lot. I am lucky to have experienced her as her friend.
When you say Leslie was there for you, do you mean through all of DC’s changes, including the cancellation of ‘Batgirl’?
Clearly, it’s been a difficult transition. There’s a lot going on in the world, but we were just there for each other.
What can be said about the future of Supergirl in DC movies?
don’t know. I hope she can play her. she loves her [Muschietti doesn’t] know. Only your new boss knows.
