Imagination Tech Discusses Its Return to the High-Performance PC GPU Market
Imagination Technologies was one of the first companies to develop a 3D accelerator specifically for the PC. On Tuesday, the company confirmed that his BXT-32-1024 GPU has been licensed by his Innosilicon in China to make Fantasy (Fenghua) 1 Type-A graphics cards. This graphics card supports 16GB of his GDDR6X with a 128-bit interface and achieves 5 TFLOPS of computing. Additionally, Type B cards are also in production, with dual GPU PCBs offering up to twice the performance, ImgTec said.
On Tuesday, UK-based ImgTec announced 30th anniversary of PowerVR, is the graphics architecture behind legendary GPUs like the Apocalypse 3D/X series. Furthermore, the imagination return Coming to high-performance PC GPU gaming in 2020. Still, we haven’t heard anything very solid about development or board partners in the last few years. RechwergI found this ImgTec blog, which states that the Fantasy 1 card pictured is installed on an ASRock Z690 PRO RS motherboard.
ImgTec confirmed the allegations regarding the fantasy series on its 30th anniversary blog. This is very important as Innosilicon had not announced ahead of time about the GPU architecture behind the Fantasy series earlier this year. Innosilicon appeared to indicate to the Chinese media that its Fenghua graphics card is entirely a “domestic desktop GPU”.
For some hints on the performance of these desktop graphics cards, there is a report earlier this year suggesting that the Fantasy 1 Type A will target GeForce RTX 3060 grade performance. Additionally, the GPU is built on his 12nm process from China and we hear it includes HDMI 2.1, DP 1.4 and VGA outputs to support multiple monitors.
The “Double Power” Fantasy 1 Type B card was set to officially launch in August. However, we’re still awaiting solid details and benchmarks for cards like the Fantasy 1 Type A, which launched about nine months ago.
Stay tuned for more insights on PowerVR’s resurgence in China and expect a wider geographic spread. PC graphics, meanwhile, continue to be dominated by Nvidia and AMD, both of whom have exciting upgrades in store for the second half of the year. And we can’t forget Intel, which has some good-looking midrange firepower lined up later this year in the form of the Arc A750 and A770. But first, we need to see if it can make it into the hotly contested list of the best graphics cards.
