Nvidia Flip-Flopping Over GeForce RTX 4070 Specs, Says Leaker

Over the past few weeks, we’ve covered several leaks and rumors regarding the specifications of the Nvidia RTX 40 series graphics cards. According to a high-profile leaker, as we approach the end of September 2022, Nvidia is still in doubt about the final specs of his RTX 4070.Today, Twitter-based Copy Te 7 Kimi There are two very different spec levels that Nvidia is flip-flopping for its all-important RTX 4070 SKU, and he’s laid out his cards as ready to take on the best graphics cards.

To keep things clear for our readers, we’ve tabulated below the rumored specs about Kopite7Kimi’s RTX 4070. The first column is the spec Leaker shared almost three weeks before him. This is the more powerful and power hungry PG141-SKU340/341 mentioned in today’s tweet. The second column shows the new alternate specification (PG141-SKU336/337). Some describe this as being significantly reduced.

The second SKU had fewer GPU cores, reduced memory quota, and was about 10% slower on synthetic benchmarks. In his latest update, Kopite7Kimi did not share his GPU clock speed indicator as to whether his GPU clock could be adjusted to his 250W as part of the drive, lowering the entry price. No clue.

If the above rumors about Nvidia dithering between the above rather different configurations of the RTX 4070 are true, it looks like the green team is finding it difficult to complete the Ada Lovelace family. I think they’ve tweaked the specs to come up with a product that’s happy to face what major competitor AMD is brewing with its Radeon RX 7000 series.

Longer term, Nvidia could fill the RTX 40 range with standard models and complement them with Ti models, “super” variants, etc. to reach a very wide range of performance/price points. It’s best to get a grip on the 4070’s performance and price positioning right from the start.

Nvidia’s xx70 cards are often seen as the sweet spot for price/performance. While the GTX 1060, RTX 2060 and RTX 3060 sold better than the 1070, 2070 and 3070, the latter are usually quantified as ‘high-end’ cards while the former are merely ‘mid-range’ offerings. Additionally, we believe Nvidia will likely not launch the RTX 4060 until next year. That means the RTX 4070 could be the cheapest new Ada Lovelace product coming this year. Matches the performance of the outbound RTX 3090 Ti.

Next-gen video cards from both Nvidia and AMD will be the most exciting we’ve seen so far. We may see his 4D chess antics from rivals in the final weeks ahead of the first launch. Is AMD attacking the green team again? Wait no more.
