Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Specs Leak: AD104 Cut by a Quarter
Famous hardware leaker @kopite7 you Preliminary specs for Nvidia’s upcoming GeForce RTX 4070 (non-Ti) graphics card have leaked out. According to the leak, Team Green decided to use the heavily stripped-down AD104 GPU for their product, but how much faster it gets in real-world games and how it ranks on the list of best graphics cards. I don’t know yet.
Please note that we are dealing with preliminary information from unofficial sources. As expected, just like the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, the standard GeForce RTX 4070 is based on the AD104 graphics processor. However, Nvidia slashed it down to 5888 his CUDA cores, which is a 23% reduction when compared to his AD104 which is full fat. Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4070 board, on the other hand, will feature 12GB of GDDR6X memory connected to the GPU using a 192-bit interface. This is the same memory configuration as the GeForce RTX 4070. In terms of power consumption, the RTX 4070 is rated at 250W. Overall board power consumption has been reduced from the RTX 4070 Ti’s 285W.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 Series Specifications
row 0 – cell 0 | GPUs | FP32 CUDA core | memory configuration | TBP |
GeForce RTX 4090 | AD102 | 16384 | 24GB 384bit 21GT/s GDDR6X | 450W |
GeForce RTX 4080 | AD103 | 9728 | 16GB 256bit 22.4GT/s GDDR6X | 320W |
GeForce RTX 4070 Ti | AD104 | 7680 | 12GB 192bit 21GT/s GDDR6X | 285W |
GeForce RTX 4070 | AD104 | 5888 | 12GB 192bit 21GT/s GDDR6X | 250W |
With the AD104 GPU configuration reduced by almost a quarter, the GeForce RTX 4070 is destined to be significantly slower than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. But, of course, Nvidia can increase GPU frequencies to make up for the “missing” CUDA cores. Perhaps this is true considering the 4070’s power draw is just 35W lower than its big brother.
Enough AD104 graphics processors to power a GeForce RTX 4070 graphics board without extensive (and expensive) binning by significantly reducing the number of active CUDA cores is coming to Nvidia. Additionally, the GeForce RTX 4070 is reported to have the same memory configuration as the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, allowing GPU makers to use the same PCB for both products, which is efficient from a manufacturing point of view.
Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 4080 and RTX 4090 are the best graphics cards you can buy today, but at $1,199 and $1,599, they’re too expensive for most people. In fact, even his upcoming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, which looks very powerful, doesn’t come cheap with its rumored $899 price tag. This pricing raises the question of how much Nvidia will charge for its other Ada Lovelace products and what it will offer.
