Patriot Viper Venom RGB DDR5-6200 C40 Review: Stealthy Stinger
Patriot’s Viper Venom DDR5 kit comes with DDR5-6200 CL40 speeds and bright RGB exterior options and is on the list of best RAM. Patriots may seem a bit behind the DDR5 party, but some brands took a bit of time to develop, resulting in the release of the first DDR5 memory kit on the market. Of course, it’s not a big deal, as DDR5 is well established, and it still carries a premium. In particular, Patriot has chosen to extend the brand’s well-known Viper series with the new Venom DDR5 lineup, which manufacturers offer in RGB and black variations. Viper Venom DDR5 has kit capacities from 16GB (2x8GB) to 32GB (2x16GB) and data rates from DDR5-5200 to DDR5-6200.
The Viper Venom DDR5 memory module features a two-tone exterior with a primary matte black design complemented by frosted aluminum accents. In addition, Patriot tactically placed the red viper logo on various parts of the heat spreader to make it visible to bystanders from all directions. Overall, memory modules look pretty cool without being too expensive. On the other hand, it’s 43mm (1.69 inches) in size, so it doesn’t fall into the unobtrusive category accurately.
The RGB version of Viper Venom comes with an RGB diffuser. The non-RGB versions are also 43mm high, so the diffuser does not add height to the memory module. For non-RGB versions, the memory module has a black bar instead of a diffuser. Customize your RGB-lit memory modules to your heart’s content with Patriot’s proprietary Viper Venom RGB software or motherboard software. In the latter case, the memory is compatible with Asus, ASRock, MSI, and Gigabyte software.
Patriot’s memory kit comes with two 16GB DDR5 memory modules with a single rank design. The integrated circuit (IC) is from SK hynix, especially the latest H5CG48MEBDX014 (M-die) chip. For power management ICs (PMICs), Patriot chose to use Richtek’s “0D = 9B409” unit, according to CPU-Z dumps.
For compatibility, the memory module defaults to DDR5-4800 with standard 40-40-40-77 timing. Patriot leveraged the XMP 3.0 standard to load three profiles into memory modules. Profile 1 sets the memory to DDR5-6200, the timing is 40-40-40-76, and the DRAM voltage is 1.35V. Profile 2 drops to DDR5-6000 at the same time, but the DRAM voltage drops to 1.25V. Our DDR5 test system consists of Intel’s Core i9-12900K flagship Alder Lake processor and Corsair’s CUE H100i Elite LCD liquid cooler. The 16-core Alder Lake chip is located on the MSI MEGZ690 Unify-X motherboard running 7D32vH0 firmware. Meanwhile, the MSI GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Gaming Trio is responsible for the gaming RAM benchmark.
The Windows 11 installation, benchmarking software, and games are on Crucial’s MX500 SSD, but the RM650x powers the entire system. Finally, the Streacom BC1 Open Bench Table ensures that all hardware is properly managed and tidy.

Intel performance
Viper Venom RGB ranked 5th overall on the performance chart. Memory kits didn’t make it to number one, but they often made it to the top three for many workloads.
Overclocking and latency tuning
There is always a potential risk of damage if you run hardware that is out of the manufacturer’s specifications. This is a standard warning when overclocking any hardware, not just memory. We have already inquired about the maximum safe voltage of SK Hynix ICs, but there is no feedback on the safe voltage of overclocking. However, after discussing with various memory vendors, I agreed that 1.4V is the maximum voltage I want to pump to DDR5 for a long time.
One of the advantages of Viper Venom RGB is that the memory uses the SKhynix M-die IC, which is similar to other faster rivals such as the V-Color Manta XPrism DDR5-6200C36. As a result, after injecting 1.4V into the memory module, there was no problem connecting Patriot’s memory to DDR5-6400 at the timing of 36-38-38-76.

Like Manta XPrism, Viper Venom RGB can run 36-37-37-76 at 1.4V for DDR5-6200. Therefore, with some careful tweaking, ViperVenom RGB may negate MantaX Prism’s stock performance.
Conclusion
There are not many DDR5-6200 memory kits on the market today, so the Viper Venom RGB DDR5-6200C40 does not have many rivals. The memory kit, on the other hand, was slightly slower than the V-Color Manta XPrism DDR5-6200 C36 ($ 399.99), which is just outside the gate. Therefore, the margin is not very large. However, if you add overclocking to the equation, SK hynix’s M-die IC is currently so popular with high speed DDR5 memory kits that Viper Venom RGB could be on par with more expensive competitors. Viper Venom RGB also comes with three XMP profiles. This is a great detail if your system cannot handle the advertised DDR5-6200 data rate.
