Raspberry Pi 4 Now Vulkan 1.2 Compliant
Graphics processing, and perhaps machine learning applications, have taken a step forward with the Raspberry Pi 4. (Opens in a new tab). and Blog post (Opens in a new tab) By Eben Upton, CEO of Raspberry Pi-Popular single board computers are compliant with version 1.2 of the Vulkan graphics API.
Reached version 1.0 (Opens in a new tab) November 2020, and 1.1 (Opens in a new tab) In October 2021, version 1.2 integrates 23 frequently used Vulkan extensions into the standard and is very close to the latest version 1.3 released in January.
The latest Pi board (Pi 4, 400 (Opens in a new tab)And Computing Module 4 (Opens in a new tab)Vulkan compliance is actually done by open source consultant Igalia, as older models of GPUs don’t work. The driver is created and presented to Vulkan maintainer Khronos for approval. This time, Khronos answered “yes”. This is an approval stamp to confirm that the driver will be updated in a future OS release.
“All the necessary changes for this have already been merged into the upstream v3dv Mesa driver and will be available in future Raspberry Pi iOS updates,” said Iago Toral of Igalia. “In addition to the core features of Vulkan 1.2, we’ve also added support for a variety of other extensions, some of which are Vulkan 1.3 cores, with many bug fixes and performance improvements.”
This development does not necessarily mean that you will see a game like this: Hades Also Road of asylum Pi 4 can improve the performance of applications such as Kodi, VLC, and hardware-accelerated web applications. There is also a Vulkan library for machine learning, which opens a new path for training neural networks in Pi clusters.
Upton’s post also flags a contribution from Roman Stratiienko, which adds Android support to the driver. This opens the door for running Android games on Pi4. Lineage OS (Opens in a new tab)..
