Raspberry Pi Powered PiBoy Mini Brings the Arcade to Your Pocket
Nintendo’s Game Boy form factor is still classic, Experimental Pi New $90 PiBoy Mini pays homage to that fact while offering a more modern electronic gadget thanks to the Raspberry Pi Zero series of boards.
I liked the design at first sight. It resembles a slightly squashed Game Boy measuring 112 x 88 x 20mm versus Nintendo’s 148 x 90 x 32mm.Inspired by his SNES release in North America, the retro purple and dark gray of the time Check the color scheme of The face of the unit has a directional pad, start, select and menu buttons. The four buttons Y, B, X, and A are labeled the same as on the SNES, but where are the shoulder buttons? Moving to the back, the L and R shoulder buttons proudly place the case. I can see it.feel good, like us RetroFlag GPi Case 2W The rear part is flattened. Unlike Nintendo’s original, there are no ports on the sides of the case. At the bottom of the unit is a USB-C connector used to charge the internal 2800mAh LiPo battery and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There is another USB-C port on the top of the case, for your favorite Raspberry Pi Zero.
The screen is a 3.5-inch LCD with a resolution of 640 x 480, capable of 60fps, and takes up more than half the front of the case. Audio is via his aforementioned 3.5 mm headphone jack or integrated amplified speakers. So where does the Raspberry Pi Zero go? This easy-to-build kit is ready to drop into your Raspberry Pi Zero. Without the assembly guide on the site, I can only assume the Pi Zero fits behind the screen. I found a micro SD card slot on the right back of the case. Another clue is that the screen is connected to the Pi using his GPIO. So he uses some form of connector or interposer to join the two together. Perhaps even pogo pins are used to form connections?
Game play on the PiBoy Mini is handled by one of many emulation-based operating systems. Your RetroPie, Lakka, or Recalbox is ready and waiting to get you started.
Scheduled for release on May 10, 2023, the $90 handheld is available for pre-order now.
