TSMC Completes Construction of 5nm Fab 21 in Arizona
TSMC recently held a replenishment ceremony for Fab 21 near Phoenix, Arizona, celebrating the rapid completion of construction from March 2021 to July 2022. After using the equipment, move on to semiconductor manufacturing tools.
“The 5nm semiconductor fab—Fab 21—in Phoenix, Arizona continues to make great strides,” reads a LinkedIn post from TSMC. (Opens in a new tab)“Recently, we celebrated the placement of the last beam, also known as the” topping “milestone in the construction industry, with a local partner in the Fab 21 building. Over 4,000 participants enjoyed this important moment, including our own employees and partners. ”
Now that the fab shell is complete, TSMC will need to install various anti-vibration devices, wiring, sewerage, ventilation, air conditioning, etc. When everything is ready, you’ll start equipping your clean room with a variety of fab equipment, including scanners, etchings, deposits, resist removal, measurement, and inspection tools, to name just a few.
Matt Schrader We have been following the construction process of TSMC since last year.

TSMC’s Fab21 is scheduled to go into production in early 2024. Its initial capacity is TSMC’s N5 (5nm class) node with 20,000 wafer launches (WSPM) per month. Meanwhile, the foundry’s 1,100-acre site will be able to host additional phases of the fab, and if the company has sufficient demand for chips, the campus’s production capacity will be approximately 100,000 wafers. The cost of the current phase is estimated to be between $ 10 billion and $ 12 billion.
