WD Black SN850 (1TB) SSD Now $109, An All-Time Low
In honor of Labor Day in the United States, Amazon has struck deals for SSDs that run faster than most people. The normally $129 WD Black SN850 (1 TB) is now available for $109. This version of his popular NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD features a heatsink, making it the perfect PS5 upgrade.
The WD Black SN850 boasts sequential read and write speeds of 7000 / 5300 MBps respectively. When I reviewed the WD Black SN850 (opens in new tab) the drive hung on the popular Samsung 980 PRO, beating it on some benchmarks and lagging slightly on others.
In DiskBench, a synthetic storage test copying 100 GB of data, the WD Black SN850 moved a set of 22,579 files at 1,522 MBps. This was slightly better than Samsung’s drive and much better than the PCIe 3.0 drive we compared.
Another great advantage of the WD Black SN850 is that this model comes with a heatsink, making it perfect for use with Sony’s PlayStation 5 gaming console. The PS5 has a very sealed internal storage expansion slot, which could lead to thermal throttling due to overheating. The heatsink included in the SN850 eliminates this problem.
