A Fan Is Remastering The Simpsons: Hit and Run – Including Hand-Drawing All the Cutscenes

Avid fans are creating a remastered mod for The Simpsons: Hit & Run, while at the same time hand-painting all the cutscenes in the game in classic Simpsons style.

YouTube El Gato Del Tejado I’ve uploaded a video showing progress so far, including issues that arise when remastering a game nearly 20 years ago. One of these issues occurred when El Gato Del Tejado started working on the Hit & Run cutscene. These cutscenes were drawn in 3D in the original 2003 version.

“I want to see Hit & Run cutscenes with current 3D technology. [the] A remake of Crash Bandicoot and a Battle for Bikini Bottom, “he said in the video. “I don’t have much experience with 3D animation, so I recommend choosing 2D,” he said.

The Simpsons: Hit & Lanfan Remaster Cutscene Comparison

El Gato Del Tejado explained that the animator tried to use rotoscoping, which traces footage frame by frame, but this really worked only for the background, not the actual character. The only option was to draw these by hand, and a few pages of work by Simpsons creator Matt Groening was shown before the final results. So instead of being 3D like the original game, the remastered mod will have a cutscene style similar to the Simpsons cartoons.

However, except for cutscenes, El Gato Del Tejado updates the original 3D look of the game. A Previous video Reproduced dozens of textures and updated the Homer Simpson model to show Modder’s work to make the character look more modern. El Gato Del Tejado quickly acknowledges the problems encountered (how Bart’s nose disappeared in the new style, how Lisa turned into a monster, etc.), so it’s obviously not a quick process. But the work so far is pretty amazing.

El Gato Del Tejado does not provide a timescale for the time it takes to work, Open Patreon We support the funding of the project.

However, this is not the first remake of The Simpsons: Hit & Run, as some other mods have tried to recreate the beloved open world game.

One modder started recreating the game in Unreal Engine 5 and impressed the original lead designer, but the Dreams player probably created the weirdest version ever. Finally, one completely ridiculous mashup saw modder combines The Simpsons: Hit and Run and God of War.
