Developer Yakuza Studio has revealed that wrestler Kenny Omega will make a cameo appearance in Ishin as a summonable character to assist in combat. He will be joined by Midnight Mass star Rahul Kohli.

Omega and Kohli’s appearances take the form of “trooper cards”, effectively summoning similar to Poundmate used in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Trooper Cards are a new feature in the remake that allow players to summon other characters to aid in battle with special abilities, attacks, or temporary stat boosts. It includes both celebrity cameos and visits from other characters throughout Like a Dragon. series.

Kohli’s Trooper Card is titled “Essence of Firestorm” and the in-game description reads: I use my experience in law enforcement to keep the peace. ”

That said, as he told IGN ahead of this announcement, wrestling fans shouldn’t expect what his actual in-ring moves look like.

“Not at all,” says Omega. “This is not a wrestling hold. It takes into account that we are heavily influenced by swordsmanship, magic and gunfighting. I thought it was my chance to do something a little different. Hopefully someday, I’d like to incorporate some real wrestling maneuvers into the game, but for now I’m very happy and excited to have some very unique and original attacks that feel like they belong in space. “

The AEW World Trios Champion is known as a gamer and RPG fan, and has been a big fan of the Like a Dragon series since childhood. He has so far played all but two of his entries, Black Ice, a PSP game released only in Japan, and the original Ishin.

His big favorite (manga? Omega loves that Yakuza: Like a Dragon is an RPG, but they wanted Yakuza 2 to scream too.

“I feel like there’s an element of nostalgia. I feel like that’s what captured my imagination the most,” he says. “I knew so much about Tokyo and its sights and sounds that I took my adventures to Osaka and saw how quirky, cool and fun it was without any hope of ever going there. It will always hold a special place in my heart.”

The more time passes and the more installments the game refines to our reality.

“It caught me off guard,” he said of the cameo. Even if you’re not a fan or a fan of Kenny Omega, I’m happy to report, would it have been sad if you weren’t there? Because I helped design a card that I think will be useful across the board, making your time with Ishin a little more enjoyable and a little more overwhelming.

Omega is excited not only about itself joining Ishin, but what it means for the franchise. However, his appearance coincides with the series’ continued growth in popularity in the West. This means that Ishin and future games may see more cameos from Western celebrities.

“It feels like the more installments that go on and the more installments we get, the more polished the reality of the game becomes,” says Omega. “We are starting to see more real people. More real restaurants, intellectual property, landmarks. is becoming similar to

“And who knows? Who knows where their journey will take them? Maybe they’ll end up somewhere else one day. But yeah, for now, the world is getting friendlier and friendlier so if there’s any collaboration I’ll definitely put my name in the hat hopefully this isn’t the end of kenny omega in the rgg universe .”

I ended the conversation by asking Omega if he thought he could pit Like a Dragon: Ishin!’s protagonist Ryoma against him.

“No, of course not,” he says. “I don’t know what answer anyone was expecting. No, I’m just a showman. I’m a bad guy too. I think I’m the guy who needs his ass flogged.” .”
