Amnesia: The Bunker Announced, Promises Major Changes to the Series

Frictional Games has announced the next game in the terrifying Amnesia series, Amnesia: The Bunker. This could be the biggest departure from the series.

The studio has announced that the next Amnesia game is coming to Xbox, PlayStation, and PC in 2023. The developer called his Amnesia: The Bunker the most open game yet, allowing players to explore a semi-open world with few scripted events.

This means that players can explore different paths and areas without being constrained, but be aware that fear comes from the ‘always-present threat’.

Additionally, players can wield both a revolver and a noisy dynamo flashlight, allowing them to choose their gameplay style. Players can defend themselves, but they can also survive through stealth.

Amnesia: Bunker plays as a French soldier haunted by amnesia. The game is set in a dark bunker of World War I.

Frictional promises multiple solutions for each task, puzzle, and other obstacle, all contributing to the freedom and openness of the new Amnesia game. The semi-open world actively encourages exploration and experimentation, according to the developers, but each decision can change the outcome of the game’s reaction.

Given that the game is not scripted, objects, threats, and resources also change from playthrough to playthrough.

Amnesia: The Bunker is the latest game in the Amnesia series, following Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs and Amnesia: Rebirth. You can read IGN’s review of Amnesia: Rebirth here.
