Animal Crossing: New Horizons Has Become Japan’s Best-Selling Game of All Time
Animal Crossing: New Horizons has sold 10.45 million copies since its release two years ago, making it the best-selling game in Japan.
according to game data libraryNew Horizons, a site that claims to be the “largest collection of Japanese game sales data on the Internet,” took the top spot on Japan’s best-selling games list, surpassing several Pokémon titles. 2nd place is Pokemon red, blue and green with 10.23 million, followed by Pokemon gold and silver with 7.17 million.

New Horizons was released in March 2020 and quickly saw incredible sales. The game’s rapid success was further underscored by its sales in Japan, where it climbed to his No. 1 spot on the Best Selling Games chart in just two years. His other three entries in the top five were released over 20 years ago.
The list also revealed that Splatoon 3 made the top 20 with sales of just over 5 million copies in the first two months of its release. The third-person shooter had a tremendous launch in Japan, selling 3.45 million copies in just three days, surpassing giant Nintendo Switch titles like New Horizons and Pokémon Sword and Shield in the same period. .
Released on the doorstep of a global pandemic, New Horizons provided a much-needed escape for many, and IGN called it an “expanded and polished version of a classic Nintendo game full of surprises.” Nintendo later expanded the game with the Happy Home Paradise DLC.
