After announcing Avowed on a livestream three years ago, Microsoft finally revealed gameplay at an Xbox Game Showcase event aligned with its 2024 release window. It’s a first-person fantasy RPG set in the world of Eora, the world of Pillars of Eternity, full of fantastical monsters and magical combat.

As such, expect classic Obsidian first-person melee combat and magical combat in the colorful, vibrant environments of the section called Living Lands of Eora. The narration of the trailer was narrated by his character Kai, an ex-soldier and one of his companions who joins the player in Avoided.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about Avowed, but story and companions seem very important to the game. According to PC Gamer, Avowed’s small scale “just came naturally” when Obsidian started focusing on it.

Obsidian is a busy time. He’s working on The OuterWorlds 2, continuing to support Grounded and Pentiment, and of course Avowed is in development.

In case you missed it, here’s everything announced during the Xbox Game Showcase. Once that’s done, check out the Summer of Gaming schedule to see what’s next.
