Best Summer of Gaming Ever Predictions

Even though a slow-motion train wreck led to the eventual demise of video game previews Atton E3 at this year’s E3, the summer 2023 season, and June in particular, is shaping up to be an unparalleled time for gaming. . This culminating rise in prominence included two of his most memorable games of recent times, both Jedi Survivor and Tears of the Kingdom. Soon after, the equally epic Street Fighter 6 and Diablo IV will follow, with Final Fantasy XVI on the horizon.

Few years, and even fewer summers, have yielded such great results at such densities in such a short period of time. For those of us who need mundane things like work, sleep, and time with generous loved ones, we already don’t have enough time in our day to enjoy all of these games to the fullest. I tend to be a monogamist when it comes to gaming, but it’s easy to get distracted by shiny new things, so my journey since Jedi shipped in April has been an insatiable Diablo habit. It was a disappointing unfinished series that culminates in

Game’s Biggest Road to Summer

Incredibly, there is still more to come. Since E3 first took place in 2020, we’ve incorporated all of our big summer livestreams and preview events into our Summer of Gaming schedule. The year kicked off at his PlayStation Showcase on May 24th with 35 trailers delivered, topped off with his Insomniac’s awesome demo of Spider-Man 2 that hints at the sequel’s expanded game world. This was followed on June 1 by the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase, which saw the approval of Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, Samba de Amigo: Party Central, Stranger Things VR and the VR reboot of the 90s classic The 7th Guest. was glimpsed.

The next few weeks will be the real E3 of what it used to be. As of this writing, he has over 18 livestreamed events scheduled for his first two weeks in June, and we plan to cover those events and deliver them on each platform. If things continue as they were last year, we have no doubt that more shows will be announced before the end of the month. These events include indie showcases by The Guerrilla Collective and Day of the Devs, programs by Dames 4 Games, Black Voices in Gaming, and Wholesome Direct, as well as the PC Gaming Show, Future Games Show, UploadVR event, and Sega Summit It is included. For a yakuza game.

A view from behind the camera in the Summer of Gaming studio. After the Summer Game Fest livestream on June 8th, I’ll be sitting somewhere behind that desk talking about everything that was announced.

In fact, though, there are three huge events scheduled that will drive most of the buzz over the summer. First up is his Summer Game Fest live show on June 8th, which should see a ton of trailers. Last year’s show saw him do well in 33 games, but this year’s show could well be even busier. Then there’s the Xbox Showcase (which includes a 45-minute Starfield explosion) on June 11th, followed by his Ubisoft’s Forward event on June 12th. All of this from our LA studio pre- and post-show. But before that, let’s guess what we can see.

expectations and wishes

Despite the headline, I am reluctant to call any of the following “predictions”. Because this is really just a few things we already know for sure mixed with some educated guesses and a healthy dose of wishful thinking. . Years ago, I used to do this every summer with a co-host on a podcast called 1UP Yours. Some of you may remember. And we got pretty good at it. We’ll find out in a few weeks if it’s still available…

  • Starfield, yes.
  • Microsoft is committed to Forza Motorsport and will do everything in its power to show you just how much more beautiful it is than Gran Turismo, and even more unnecessarily detailed. Look at individual carbon fibers, etc. No matter how long your showcase segment is, people will complain that it’s too long.
  • I think the Gears 6 teaser shows little to no gameplay. I know this isn’t a very bold guess, but it’s about time. It’s no surprise to think that a Master Chief Collection-style Gears bundle is also in the works.
  • All the glittering hype about Playground Games’ Fable reboot turns out to be true. I think it’s a lot further along than anyone thinks, and we may even decide on a release date.
  • This is probably evident in Phil Spencer’s emphasis on having played it many times, but the first-person RPG Avowed, which expands on Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity, includes a large portion.
  • A long and even weirder Death Stranding 2 trailer is coming soon.
  • There’s no doubt we’ll see a lot more in the future for Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage, but it will focus on dastardly stealth before the real main course of what Codename Red is called. I think you’ll learn that it’s just entertainment. I think we’ll get a name for the game and a reveal that it’s a gigantic ninja-filled RPG-style thing that’s even bigger than Valhalla.
  • The only thing that even vaguely smells like the endorsement of a new Splinter Cell is where Ubisoft introduces XDefiant.
  • Ubisoft presents Avatar: Pandora’s Frontier in all its glory. Comments on any platform would basically be yawning or claiming that they weren’t thinking. Then you’ll find that the trailer got hundreds of millions of views in his first 12 hours.
  • If you’re expecting anything from Beyond Good & Evil 2, you’re just stressing yourself out. We all have to let it go.
  • Ubisoft’s Megaton will be a Star Wars reveal. There are various rumors flying around about this game, but my favorite is that this is a Mandalorian game. It’s not based on the show, but it’s based on the oft-referenced Purge. Different flavors of wishful thinking resemble Assassin’s Creed with spaceflight and interplanetary combat.
  • Thanks to Geoff Keighley’s frequent reminders, we already know that Mortal Kombat 1’s gameplay reveal will take place at Summer Game Fest, so we can safely report it under ‘expectation’. .
  • Warner Bros. Games used its Summer Game Fest to screen Gotham Knights last year, so it’s using this year’s event to help Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. may reveal something. The match isn’t scheduled until February next year, but the last screening definitely left a lot of people sick of it, so there’s a chance it’ll make up for it.
  • I think we’ll see more Sonic-related work at Summer Game Fest. There is no evidence to support this, just speculation. This may be just the Frontiers DLC trailer featuring playable Tails, Amy, and Knuckles after all, but I honestly think there’s more to it than that.
  • Sega reveals a new Hyena trailer because everyone forgot the game existed.
  • We can’t wait for new updates for many Silent Hills, especially Silent Hill 2. Maybe it’s time for a new trailer?
  • Phantom Blade Zero will surely appear again. The hard-to-describe steampunk kung fu, possibly soul-like action RPG produced by studio S-Game for the first time after wowing everyone at the PlayStation Showcase is an early surprise and hopefully we’ll see more of it. I expect
  • Lies of P came to Gamescom in a similar situation last August. The trailer during the showcase wowed everyone with its gritty visuals and soulful gameplay. Round8 debuted live at Gamescom’s Opening Night of Him hosted and curated by Keighley, so it seems like a pretty safe bet to see a follow-up at Summer Game Fest. At least we will know the specific release date from “August”.
  • There haven’t been any Warhammer 40k game announcements in the last five minutes, but perhaps one of them will.
  • Perhaps Capcom will continue to go down the wrong path with another remake announcement. Perhaps Code Veronica causing the split? (Yeah, yeah, I know they said they weren’t doing that last October) right nowbut do you really believe it?)
  • You’ll be seeing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 for the first time. Probably at Summer Game Fest.

There are 21 guesses as to what we will see. When things settle down in mid-June, I’ll get back to working on this and see how it goes. Some of it will turn out to be laughably wrong, but let’s see. Whatever happens, no matter what platform you play on, it’s already been a unique and amazing time for gaming. fun.
