Canceled Dune GBA Game Has Released 20 Years Later With New Name

The canceled Game Boy Advance game set in the Dune universe is finally released after 20 years.

As spotted on Twitter account space shipperDune: Ornithopter Assault was released to Steam as Elland: The Crystal Wars.

“Elland: The Crystal Wars launches on Steam today,” they said. “This Gameboy his advance game was developed 20 years ago by Hungarian studio Soft Brigade as Dune: Ornithopter Assault before being canceled by Cryo Interactive in 2002. This is an unexpected It’s a return!”

Dune: Ornithopter Assault was originally developed for GameBoy Advance, with gameplay focused on the iconic Ornithopter from Frank Herbert’s Dune universe. Unfortunately, the game was shelved in his 2002 with most of the game completed and all missions completed.

Here is the original synopsis of the game (via unseen64):

“Trained by Gurney Halleck, the most capable and honored officer of House Atreides, you will become an Ornithopter piloting and combat specialist. Engaged in an all-out war over Spice, you will become the home of House Atreides.” You must surpass all flying skills to survive the collapse and help Paul and Fremen fight for Arrakis.”

The game contained over 20 different missions including escort duty, security, destroying troops and vehicles, capturing vehicles and spice supplies. It also included five solo and multiplayer modes using link cables.

But now the game has been adapted for something else… although it sounds pretty familiar.

After switching Arrakis to Elland, the game sounds almost identical to the original. Even the Ornithopter was simply redesigned as “Raptor”.
