Netflix has revealed that Cyberpunk: Edge Runner will premiere in September with the official clip of the new anime series.
Previously confirmed to be a 2022 release, Netflix provided fans with a month looking forward to the third day of the Geeked Week showcase. The trailer starts pretty slowly, speeding up some chaotic clips of the anime connected to Cyberpunk 2077, and revealing that Edgerunners are R-rated just like the game, a pretty scary scene. Sticking to the aesthetics of the entire genre of games and cyberpunk, Edgerunners are colorful and flashy, whether it’s the bright light of Night City or the blood blast in the brutal battle scenes of the series.
Details of this violence can be found in the 45-second clip released with the trailer. This clip seems to be taking place at the same location as the Cyberpunk 2077 pickup mission. In this mission, V and Jackie pick up a robot spy spider from Electro. Maelstrom gang of eyes. The cargo looks like a human girl, not a robo, but you can see that similar negotiations are taking place in the anime clips. The girl is taken, the gun is pulled, the arm is amputated, and general confusion occurs.
Cyberpunk: Edge Runner is a stand-alone 10-episode story about street punk becoming a mercenary known as Edge Runner. The series was first announced two years ago in June 2020, but Netflix, along with co-developer CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger, has remained fairly quiet throughout the series ever since. Hopefully we’ll see more before the September release.
