Daedalic Entertainment Ending Internal Development, Work on New Lord of the Rings Game Halted
Daedalic Entertainment, the studio behind the long-delayed and under-appreciated Lord of the Rings: Gollum, has closed its internal development department.
of New article by Games Wirtschaft, the outlet reported that Daedalic Entertainment will focus on publishing, selling and marketing games going forward. In a statement to Games Wirtschaft, the studio said it was a “difficult turning point” for the company.
Daedalic Entertainment also told the studio it was laying off employees, with 25 people affected by the layoffs. “We care about each member of our team and it is important to us that the transition goes as smoothly as possible,” a Daedalic spokesperson told Games Wirtschaft. “Therefore, we support former employees in finding new opportunities within our network.”
Additionally, the Germany-based game studio announced that it had stopped developing another Lord of the Rings game it had been working on in-house. The game has been in development since 2022, code-named “It’s Magic” and will probably come out next year.
According to Games Wirtschaft, the studio is still working on improving Lord of the Rings: Gollum and is currently working on another patch, even though it’s not working on new games in-house. . A Nintendo Switch version is also in development, aiming for release later this year.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum was released last month and came under fire for performance issues, graphics and gameplay. Shortly after launch, the developer apologized and promised to improve the quality of the game.
