Detective Pikachu 2: Long-Absent Switch Sequel Is ‘Nearing Release’

The sequel to the 3DS’ Detective Pikachu game, Nintendo Switch, is “near release,” according to the developer working on it.

As reported by Nintendo Lifedeveloper Creatures Inc. Senior Game Programmer. his LinkedIn page.

“I’m working on one unannounced project and one upcoming Detective Pikachu 2,” Murphy said of his current role.

It’s just a small update, but it’s pretty much everything we’ve heard about the game since it was first announced in 2019. The Pokémon Company knew at the time that it wasn’t just a port or re-release of the original 3DS game. Confirmed…but a full-fledged sequel of its own.

Not to be confused with the hit movie, but following essentially the same storyline, Detective Pikachu is a cinematic adventure game in which the main character, Tim, embarks on a journey to find his father in Lyme City. Players travel around the world solving crimes and meeting Trainers and Pokémon from different generations.

Arguably one of the most unique takes on the series, featuring a loud-talking Pikachu instead of the usual cute and subdued version. The Pokemon Company continues to shatter expectations of what Pokemon games can be, and most recently did so with the release of Legends: Arceus.

In an 8/10 review of the 3DS game, IGN said:

Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelancer. He talks about witchers all day long.
