Final Fantasy 16 Has To Be PS5 Generation Only

Final Fantasy 16 joins a small group of games dedicated to new generations and will be a limited-time PS5 exclusive at launch. Its combat system relies on the PS5 system’s memory and transfer speeds.

In a recent hands-on session, we learned that Final Fantasy 16’s boss fights are a seamless blend of player-controlled combat and cinematic cutscenes. To create this blend of no loading screens or fade-to-black moments, the Square Enix development team turned to the power of his PS5.

“While you were fighting Ifrit and Garuda, and in that great battle, [in the hands-on demo], the PS5 is loading the next scene in the background,” explained producer Naoki Yoshida. “We’re ready, so we can transition seamlessly.”

Combat director Yoshito Suzuki elaborated further. “You’re graphically representing fists, claws, and wings. [of the Eikon abilities] It’s all real-time, all this with beautiful graphics, and you have all these different options,” he said. “But thanks to the power of the PlayStation 5, all this can now be done seamlessly with no latency.”

“If it weren’t for the memory the PlayStation 5 has and the transfer speeds of the SSD that the PlayStation 5 has, we would still be in development,” he added.
