God of War Live-Action Series Officially Announced for Prime Video

Prime Video has announced that it has officially ordered a live-action God of War series in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions.

According to Amazon’s Prime Video service, the live-action series is an adaptation of Santa Monica Studio’s sequel series, which takes place in the Norse realm of Midgard after Kratos seeks revenge in ancient Greece.

Like the game, the series follows Kratos as he travels with his son to the highest peak as a final request from his late wife.

Earlier this year, it was reported that Prime Video was in talks with PlayStation about a potential live-action series, but today’s direct order announcement confirms Prime Video is serious about the adaptation.

The Wheel of Time’s Rafe Judkins served as showrunner and executive producer, while Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, who have worked on Iron Man and Children of Men, joined the series as writers and executive producers. Corey Barlog will also serve as an executive producer.

“God of War is a compelling, character-driven franchise that we believe will captivate audiences around the world with its vast, immersive world as much as its rich storytelling,” he said. said Vernon Sanders, Head of Global TV at Amazon Studios.

“We are proud and excited to work with our friends at Amazon Studios and our partners at PlayStation Productions to adapt this beautifully heartbreaking game into a premium live-action series,” said Catherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios. I’m here.

God of War was released in 2018 to critical acclaim. A sequel, God of War: Ragnarok, was released in his 2022 and was a frontrunner on several Game of the Year lists and categories. You can read IGN’s review of God of War: Ragnarok.

Prime Video isn’t just adapting God of War. The creators of Westworld have been busy working on the company’s live-action Fallout series and recently released the series’ first images.
