Hironobu Sakaguchi Considering PC Port and Sequel to Fantasian

At the Monaco Anime Game International Conferences 2023 (MAGIC 2023), Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi reflected on his nearly 40-year long career in a 90-minute panel hosted by IGN JAPAN.

His first game, The Death Trap, dates back to 1984, but Sakaguchi’s latest, Fantasian, will be released for Apple Arcade in 2021. Fantasian received critical acclaim for its incorporation of a real-life diorama as the backdrop for its locations, an excellent soundtrack by Nobuo Uematsu, and an innovative combat system. This allowed players to aim attacks and stock up on random encounters.

However, since it was an Apple Arcade exclusive, many RPG fans didn’t get the chance to play Sakaguchi’s new epic.

“Fantasia is a title that I would like more people to see in the future,” Sakaguchi said.

Sakaguchi is eager for a PC port and a sequel, but stressed that nothing has been decided yet.Fantasian released for Apple Arcade is split into two parts. It’s unclear if the potential PC port will be released as a single title.

At MAGIC 2023, Sakaguchi also reflected on the difficulty of developing Chrono Trigger, saying it almost became a “mediocre game”. In 2022, IGN interviewed Sakaguchi about his love for Final Fantasy XIV and his plans for the future.
