How One Player’s Nier: Automata Gameplay Clip Has Sent the Community on a Wild Treasure Hunt
Earlier last month, a new Reddit user named u / sadfutago joined Niersubreddit and asked that it might seem like a pretty harmless question to outsiders.How do you open a church?“”
Their post was short and pointed out, explaining that they were new to Reddit and wanted to know how to open a church in NieR: Automata. Boss Adam. They explained that they could open the door, but their friends who were in the same part of the game couldn’t.
problem? There is no such church in the copied city. Or elsewhere in Nier: Automata, as far as anyone knows. And now, thanks to this one user, the entire community is now fainting in trying to solve the mystery behind this place.
At first, members of the community who reply to sadfutago’s posts think they’re confused or may be inaccurately explaining where they’re going, and better understand what’s going on. I asked for screenshots and game clips. But the following month, when Sado Futago sporadically returned to subreddit and dropped evidence of gameplay predicament, it became clear that what they were showing wasn’t a misunderstanding at all. Instead, it looked like an entire secret area with lore meaning and Easter eggs that NieR: Automata players had never accessed before.
In a previous post, sadfutago uploaded an off-screen clip and photo of what looks like a copied city secret door, beyond which was a mysterious church with pews and balconies. As Redditors sought more evidence and provided advice on how to share clips and screenshots more clearly, sadfutago’s submissions became more detailed. It all came to mind when the clips they shared over the past few days revealed the extent of this supposed secret realm.
It starts with a hidden door, followed by a long drop down the ladder. As the music changes and the A2 runs through a long, winding corridor, there is a strange tower spire that leads to a huge door leading to the church. When A2 comes in, it plays a short cutscene that focuses on some elements of the church. Once A2 comes in, there is a short dialogue with Pod 042, identified as a dialogue line that occurs elsewhere in the game.
In front of the church, the child’s body appears to be buried in a single moon’s tears extending from his chest. The child is adjacent to Deborah and Poppora’s weapons, a mysterious dark mass that cannot interact, and a box that appears to be hackable by the 9S.
So what’s happening here? Nier: The Automata community is completely confused so far. Many suggest that sadfutago came across some of the cut content by chance. Refers to the known beta version of the copied city Almost the same place contained an off-limits church, even if it was very different from what Sadftago found.
However, if this is a hidden Easter egg or cut content, theoretically other players should be able to duplicate it under the same conditions. And so far, no one else has been able to reveal this strange secret in a copy of their game.
They tried everything from matching the quests and progress conditions that sadfutago describes in their game to trying to duplicate the same platform and patch version, but it didn’t help. Dataminers are investigating the code of NieR: Automata, looking for something that could show how to unlock this strange church and its contents, but haven’t found anything yet.
This lack of extreme evidence suggests that this is probably just a fun hoax from a talented modder, but the modding community is less certain. Multiple members of the Nier: Automata mods community, which spans both Reddit and the official mod Discord, have so much modders, especially since this section contains multiple assets that don’t exist anywhere else. A game that confirmed that it was not possible to create something complicated.
As an official post from Nier: Automata modding Discord put it:
“If this is a mod, this is first time Everyone has done this and no one knows how to make a custom door as you can see in the video. It is a relatively big task for an individual to achieve breakthroughs in various mods. “
This does not mean that it is impossible to be a mod. In fact, the theory emerges that this is an elaborate bullying from a modder or a group of modders who understand how to do map editing at this level. It is built for a complete presentation of their hard work. However, as some have pointed out, this started nearly two months ago, so many members of the community don’t seem to have been given a clue to it, and think that it’s not really gaining momentum. And such an announcement has a fairly long drawback, just until last week.
The same counterargument applies to anyone who thinks this could be a full-fledged hoax built into Blender rather than a mod. It takes a lot of work over a long period of time to get too much profit. It’s just a short fame on the internet followed by disappointment.
