How to Train Your Dragon Live-Action Movie Coming in 2025

According to The, Universal Pictures has given the green light to a live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon. hollywood reporterDean DeBrowis, who directed the entire How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, will once again write, direct and produce.

And as a sign of confidence, Universal has already set a March 14, 2025 release date.

The franchise largely follows a young Viking named Hiccup Hollandus Haddock III. Voiced by Jay Baruchel, he eventually becomes a dragon expert alongside his trusted companion Toothless, a rare Nightfury dragon.

How to Train Your Dragon is one of DreamWorks Animation’s strongest and most trusted properties. The first films co-directed by Chris Sanders grossed nearly $500 million at the worldwide box office after its release in 2010, followed by 2014’s How to Train Your Dragon 2 and 2019’s How to Train Your Dragon. How to Train: The Hidden World spawned two sequels. All three films received critical acclaim and each received an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature that year.

The TV series DreamWorks Dragons aired on Cartoon Network from 2012 to 2014 before moving to Netflix in 2015 under the new subtitle Race to the Edge, where it aired for six more seasons. Universal also partnered with Netflix on two of his other affiliated TV shows, DreamWorks Dragons: Rescue Riders and DreamWorks Dragons: The Nine Realms, which is currently airing.

Before appearing in How to Train Your Dragon, Deblois was best known for writing and directing 2002’s Lilo & Stitch. He is also credited as co-director of the 1998 Mulan storyline.
