Kiryu’s New Voice Actor Calls on Yakuza Fans to Wait for Like a Dragon to Come Out Before Passing Judgment

Longtime yakuza actor Kazuma Kiryu’s ‘Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name’ will feature a new English voice actor, but fans are worried about it. .

according to reports gamerYouTuber Yong Yea has replaced Darryl Krillo and gave fans a preview of the new voice during the Dragons of Japan panel at Anime Expo 2023.

“His little monologue was painful,” said one. reddit User responds. “And the scream at the end wasn’t very Kiryu’s.” Others were less critical of the performance, but still didn’t consider it appropriate. “Yong Yea’s voice isn’t terrible, but it sounds like a 20-year-old voice instead of a 50-year-old voice,” said one person.

However, the YouTuber has taken to Twitter to defend himself and released a version of the audio clip that is of higher quality but not yet professional.

“This is a cleaner version of Kiryu’s voice and lines from Anime Expo in a more ideal state,” said Yong Yea. “This is not an official recording, dialogue or staging of the game, but an improvised recording from the home booth.”

Finally, he repeated what many commentators said in defense of the new voice actors, adding, “Wait for the final game to see how it all comes together.”

Yong Yea will star in The Man Who Erased His Name, which ties the events of Yakuza 8 to the upcoming Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Scheduled for release on November 9th, Infinite Wealth’s release date is currently only vaguely set at 2024.
