Knockout City is Shutting Down

Knockout City, a free-to-play team-based dodgeball game, is about to get knocked out. According to today’s official post, it will be closed in June.

in the full blog post, developer and publisher Velan Studios has said Season 9 will be Knockout City’s final season, with the game ending on June 9, 2023. This means that all servers will be shut down and Knockout City will be completely unplayable.

Starting February 28th (the same day Season 9 starts), all real money transactions will be removed. However, Velan ensures Season 9 will include rich rewards in the form of XP, Style Chips, and the currency Holobax. , with increased rewards such as login bonuses and league play.

Taking place on May 23rd, the final two-week event caps off the Knockout City run with Triple XP, “massive rewards,” and a community-favorite playlist.

In the Shutdown FAQ, Velan said a private hosted server version would be released on PC. However, there will no longer be a live version of the game.

In particular, game director Jeremy Russo wrote in the same blog post a very detailed explanation of why Velan Studios chose to shut down Knockout City, saying that for Velan, “a massive live service game with no points. It has become very difficult to create a comparison,” pointing out that there were many aspects of the game that needed an overhaul to make it sustainable in the long run.

Since we are a small indie studio, it is simply not possible for us to make such system changes to live games while continuing to support live games. So it became clear that we needed to take a step back and pave the way for Velan to do what it does best through innovation. Now it’s time to take everything we’ve learned, what we’ve been successful with, and what we need to improve and work to explore new possibilities for Knockout City and other games and products we’re very excited about. We are currently doing a comprehensive review of all aspects of the game, all community feedback and analytics data, as well as the development process. Our hope is that in the not too distant future we will be able to use all this information to get to work on what’s next in the Knockout City universe. While we can’t promise that Knockout City will return, we promise you’ll continue to see new and innovative games from Velan Studios that will surprise and delight players around the world.

By the way, the live service game shutdown lasted for a week. Iron Galaxy Announced Almost Simultaneously That Rumbleverse will also be closed.
