Mortal Kombat’s Hiroyuki Sanada Doesn’t Know If He’s Returning for Sequel Yet, but He’s Game

A sequel to Mortal Kombat is reportedly in the works, but the question still lingers as to who will return.

Hiroyuki Sanada, who played Hanzo Hasashi (aka Scorpion) in the 2021 film, isn’t sure if he’ll play the undead warrior again.

“I hope so,” he told IGN during the John Wick: Chapter 4 press junket.

Shamiye Anderson, Sanada’s John Wick 4 co-star, also said, “I hope so too.”

The two actors then uttered Scorpion’s iconic line, “Get over here!”

January 2022, deadline New Line has reported that Mortal Kombat 2 is in the works and that Jeremy Slater plans to write a sequel. Simon McCoyd, who directed the first film, will return to direct.

Sanada said before comicbook.com about his uncertainty reprising his role as Scorpion.

“I don’t know. I haven’t heard anything officially yet,” Sanada said. “But I hope you can make the parts for the Scorpion, ‘Come over here! See you again.'”

On the Horizon, Sanada will star in the fourth installment of the John Wick franchise as Shimazu, the manager of the Continental Hotel in Osaka.

John Wick: Chapter 4 will premiere in theaters on May 27th.
