Nintendo Switch Successor Not Happening for Another Year at Least

Nintendo has put an end to rumors about new hardware, whether it’s the long-rumored Switch Pro or not, declaring that the Switch’s successor won’t be released until April 2024 at the earliest.

As reported by bloombergNintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa explained in a presentation to investors that he was not considering new hardware for the 2023/24 fiscal year. It means it won’t be released until the end of the month.

This is despite declining switch sales. The console sold nearly 18 million units in its last fiscal year. This is down from 23 million the year before and his 28 million the year before. Nintendo isn’t in a rush to launch a new console to deal with this decline, as it’s predicting another drop next year.

“Maintaining the Switch sales momentum will be difficult in its seventh year,” Furukawa said in his presentation. “The sales target of 15 million units for this fiscal year is a little unreasonable, but we will do our best to raise the demand for the holiday season and achieve the target.”

Rumors surrounding a new console have been circulating for years, and even analysts aren’t sure if Nintendo was planning to release a Switch 2 as early as 2021 (for lack of a better name). 4 and its Pro model, but there’s still no official information about Nintendo’s next hardware.
