In a statement to game informerNintendo explained the reasons behind the higher prices for its most anticipated 2023 games so far.
When asked if the $70 price tag will be the trend for first-party games going forward, Nintendo echoed: Suggested retail prices for Nintendo products are determined on a case-by-case basis. “
During the Nintendo Direct in February 2023, Nintendo showed off a new trailer for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. An updated price tag of $70 was revealed when pre-orders for the game soon appeared. Hopefully, this means the amount of content in the game justifies the higher price.
Nintendo is the latest company to charge $70 for the latest game, joining others like Sony, Ubisoft and Electronic Arts. However, the upcoming Pikmin 4 and Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demons games are still $60, so it looks like Nintendo is staying true to its case-by-case philosophy for now.
Nintendo also revealed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will receive a new Link amiibo and a $130 Collector’s Edition.
