Not Every Journey Is the Same: Why Remakes and Remasters are Great for Gamers

Dear Unlocked listeners and readers, Stella Chung is here again today to talk about how great games are! I recently started playing Resident Evil 4 for the first time thanks to the remake. She posted about it on Twitter and got a cold reply about why he couldn’t play one of the greatest games of all time and the others he didn’t play. play.

Growing up, we were very frugal. When I was a baby, we moved to America, and we were very poor and didn’t have a lot of disposable income to enjoy games. When we were financially stable, my parents really wanted me to focus on other “productive” extracurricular activities, so I wasn’t allowed to play games.

When I was 20 and living alone in college, I finally got my first console, the Xbox One. Even with the console and getting his PC, I couldn’t afford a lot of big games because I was going to college while working. When I took a break from school and transitioned to a full-time stream, I was able to get more games because they applied directly to my work.

Still, it made me want to keep up with the latest games, not just come back to the ones I missed. I wanted to stay up to date on upcoming games, talk about them with my friends, and play them on my stream to share with others. I also had no means of playing the old games I had missed because I was locked into a console I didn’t own.

But with so many remakes coming out, I loved being able to get stuck and play them to make up for missing the original game, and to be able to enjoy it with the modern update. A remake just restores the original game to make it look like we think we remember it. increase. Same as the remastered version on Xbox. But that’s how memory works, and we want to remember games that are the best versions of when we grew up and fell in love with our favorite titles.

So being able to see the differences in the remakes of these games is very good at stimulating nostalgia while also bringing the experience up to modern standards. I’m pretty sure, so I’m very happy to have the remake. It not only restores that memory, but also speeds it up to match the current controls.

I was also able to experience DOOM by playing the 2016 release and realize how much I love the worldbuilding and sheer violence of its demonic universe through the modern remake. This piqued my interest in researching the original DOOM Classic and giving it a try on Steam. Then there’s the beautiful collection of Halo games I never would have touched if it weren’t for the remastered bundle I’m playing with my best friend from childhood.

I really want to talk about this. missed its heyday. There is a Korean that fully describes how I feel about it, but there is no direct translation into English. 아쉽다 (Ashibuda)The best translation I can give is regret as if it were a shame and a general feeling of mourning that all comes together.

Now, I am grateful that I have a job that allows me to enjoy gaming and nurture my inner child, but looking back on my high school years, I have heard my best friends talking about the latest Assassin’s Creed game and its development. increase. I remember feeling left out and missing out on something great. I basically listened to them rant about the game they were playing and got the gist of the story.

I’ve missed the golden age of Master Chief adventures and villains, and have lived through generations through friends who played the series and told me about the latest developments. I had a moment to play for myself when I would hang out at their house and get a little taste of what they had been through.

Since then, my best friend and I have grown up and have very busy lives, but he and I still take time to play Halo: Master Chief Collection from the very first game. As soon as I booted up, I had this whole feeling when I saw this screen that reminded me of what I saw when I visited my friend’s console. When my best friend and I started playing from the beginning, he was able to share his favorite moments with me.

When I got to Halo 2 and entered the chapter where I played as the bad guy Arbiter, I was shocked and screamed how cool this was and how much I loved it. My friend said, “Yes! I’ve been waiting for your reaction! That’s exactly what I said and it’s so cool to see you experience this for the first time. Modern games don’t pull this hand.” I think it’s amazing, and this part might sound cheesy, but it felt like my inner child was being healed.

Still, it made me want to keep up with the latest games, not just come back to the ones I missed.

I know some video game enthusiasts will argue that nothing is as good as the original, but as someone who missed it the first time, I appreciate the remakes and remasters. I truly feel they are a great addition to the games that are currently being released. can do.

If I could pick up an old console that I missed and play a game that I didn’t grow up with, I would definitely do it. And I know I’m not the only one in a similar situation. Games are great and you should be able to enjoy them however you like. I appreciate that remasters and remakes exist for players who enjoyed it in the past to enjoy it again, and for new players to enjoy the game for the first time. time.

This is a great way to bring gamers together, talk about the same game, and share stories with them about our experience, whether it’s the original or the remake.

If you could remaster or remake any game, what would you choose? For me, if DICE could make a proper Mirror’s Edge remake of the original, I would be absolutely ready.
