Phantom Liberty Director Will Lead Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel

Gabe Amatangelo, director of the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion Phantom Liberty, will also direct the full sequel for CD Projekt Red.

talk to bloombergAmatangelo said he would start work on the sequel once the development of the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 expansion is complete. Considering the Phantom Liberty’s release date is his September 26th, it should be out within the next three months.

Little else is known about the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, code-named Orion from CD Projekt Red, but the developer promised to “unleash the full potential this universe has to offer.”

CD Projekt Red focused on building an all-new North American studio for the game, consisting of 350 to 500 developers between teams in Boston and Vancouver, so as of October 2022, development is had not started. However, Amatangelo is looking to move on to the Phantom Liberty after it’s finished, so if it hasn’t started development yet, it should start soon.

Amatanngelo interviewed IGN during the Summer of Gaming to outline what fans can expect from the expansion (and therefore likely what the sequel will focus on). Phantom Liberty will also change some aspects of the base game and add a new ending.

It also features vehicular combat, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners-inspired cyberpsychosis features, and a wise homage to witchers, but the game has higher PC requirements.

Ryan Dinsdale is a freelance reporter for IGN. He will talk about witchers all day long.
