Quake 2 Remastered Rating Spotted Ahead of QuakeCon 2023

It looks like Quake 2 Remastered is in the works after an unannounced shooter review was spotted online.

Kudamatsu I found “Quake 2 Remastered” listed on the South Korean Game Ratings and Control Board, which has definitely been leaked. At the time of publication, the list is still alive, to see the release on PC. IGN reached out to Bethesda for comment.

The listing describes Quake 2 Remastered as “an FPS game that wages war against a hostile alien race, Strog, who plans to invade Earth.” This includes “excessive violence” and “frequent depictions of blood and bodily injuries in the process of fighting with weapons”.

The list was announced just weeks before QuakeCon 2023 kicked off on August 10th. As Gematsu pointed out, in 2021, the Korean Game Ratings Management Board evaluated the remastered version of the original Quake prior to its official announcement at QuakeCon 2021.

Quake Remastered was released for PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch, so it seems likely that Quake 2 Remastered will be available for the full set of PCs and consoles as well. And given that Bethesda is owned by Microsoft, Quake 2 Remastered will undoubtedly launch directly to Xbox Game Pass, just like Quake Remastered.

Quake 2 was first released in 1997. Id Software’s first-person shooter continued his Quake story set in its predecessor, spawning two sequels and numerous spin-offs since then.
