Remnant 2 – Introducing the Handler: Surviving The Root with Man’s Best Friend | IGN First

The supernatural wastelands of Remnant 2 can be lonely places. But for those who don’t want to go it alone, there is the Handler archetype. This is a character class that provides an incredibly trustworthy canine companion. My trusty dog and I chewed through countless bad guys, even a few bosses, and ordered principal designer Ben Cureton to “sit down” and tell us all about the Handler archetype.

“The fantasy with Handlers is that I always have someone pushing my back and we work together, work together, take down big enemies. I can draw aggro. We can pull it out,” explained Ben.

“Every time you toggle between these options, your dog’s bandana will change color to reflect the role it’s currently wearing.”

Primarily designed for those who want to play Remnant solo, Handler is a support class that has gotten a little better at everything with the help of a very handy dog. Not only does the dog have a chunky health bar to keep you distracted during combat and help you take down enemies with his deadly teeth, but he can switch between three modes depending on the strategy you want to deploy. In Guard Dog Mode, I gained the ability to howl and draw enemies away from all enemies in the area, while in Support Dog Mode, I was able to heal myself and my allies within the area of effect. rice field. Of course, if you just want to go on a rampage, you can also switch him to attack his dog mode to give him even more DPS. Best of all, whenever you toggle between these options, your dog’s bandana will change color to reflect its currently equipped role.

You could also use the ping system to lure companions to different locations on the battlefield. If I want him to stay close and protect me, I press the button to summon him to my side, but if he’s sneaking around preparing to ambush a group of enemies, the furry boy on an enemy and tell him to run to a specific part of the map to attack.

But the Handler’s awesomeness starts there, as the class’ most powerful features are locked behind Prime Perk. This is a special ability only available to those who have made the archetype primary his character his class. “One of the cool things about him is [the Handler] It’s a prime perk called Bonded,” explained Ben. “And Bonded says that every time a handler goes down, a companion will come and take it out of the bag and use it on me to revive me, as long as the dragon heart is available. This is very cool.”

My trusty dog was almost always ready to revive me, so I never had to worry about healing. For example, if a friendly gunslinger is attacked by tentacled aliens, you can tell the dog to run away, or at least draw their attacks . I was even able to revive an ally into a dog who fell prey to an enemy and needed Dragon Hearts.

I don’t usually dig into support classes and usually prefer to rely on teammates rather than NPCs, but I’ll admit that Handlers overwhelmed me. Not only was it a lot of fun to play, but the dog wasn’t stooping and was able to deal with a ton of damage in the build I played. It makes sense, because you told me you hate being stuck. Same, my friend.
