Sony Is Already Retiring Accolades, a PS5 Launch Feature

Sony plans to discontinue the PS5 praise feature later this year. This is because players aren’t using the award-based system as much as the company expected when it was announced at launch.

As reported by TheSixthAxisSony announced in a statement that it will unplug the Accolades feature within the next few months due to its low penetration among PS5 users.

“In the fall of 2022, the PlayStation 5 praise feature will no longer be supported,” the statement read. “This feature isn’t aware of the level of usage we expected, so we’re focusing our efforts again. We encourage the community to continue to send positive messages to each other.”

Accolades initially encourages players to send one of three Accolades (Helpful, Welcoming, or Good Sport) to fellow gamers based on their performance in online multiplayer matches, resulting in a more positive gaming experience. Introduced to promote and unite the community.

Players can see how many praises they have earned by looking at their PSN profile. Unfortunately, those players didn’t seem to be very interested in this option.

Sony is adding new features elsewhere in the PlayStation Stars scheme announced last month. PlayStation Stars is a new loyalty program that allows players to earn points that can be redeemed for the PlayStation Store or other perks.

This program represents another upgrade to Sony’s digital products due to the recent introduction of the new PlayStation Plus tier. The base layer is similar to the previous PlayStation Plus, but the middle and most expensive layers offer hundreds of additional games with services similar to the Xbox Game Pass.
